I'll repeat this as I received some positive comments on it from posters who did not feel comfortable speaking up.

How many cans do we need? 10 seems excessive.
I'm posting 5 threads from a source in main & the same in politics. It seems reasonable enough but nothing is concrete. We'll see how it works out.

I have always been of the opinion that on threads like news stories that what people are interested in stays up and what they are not drifts down. My solution to keeping other threads up in a heavy news day is bumping them if they are active but fall off the main page.

This is how I feel. People post in threads, the threads stay on the front page. If people don't post in them, they fall to the latter pages. Michie's posts keep the topics moving. Otherwise, things grow stagnant without her.

Yes, we do re-hash the same issues over and over, but that happens even without Michie's articles. People here have pet issues (abortion, homosexuality, big government) that they want to discuss frequently. If I don't want to touch a particular issue with a ten foot pole, I just don't go in the thread.

I could post 1-2 articles too, if you like, but they might require some reading. Since I like academic things and hardcore theology, the articles might relate to that. Maybe since the american-centric nature of this forum is off-putting for some of us, having a non-American pov on Catholic issues might stimulate more discussion. I'd be willing to give it a try.

I for one would love to see you do that Gwen.

I can see 3 main/ 3politics being a compromise for posting articles. But I'm flexible. 5 is fine if others agree.

I also agree that the poster should give some indication of their thoughts on the article. I've been confused on that point before.

I'm not invested in this fight. Just my two cents.

I'll do my best with the 5 in each forum that has been previously mentioned. As far as comments, I will comment if I feel it is needed. Just pay attention to the quote tags if you are confused. :) This is just a trial run we can tweak as we go along.

It's mainly repeat threads of the same exact thing day in and day out that bother me. Homosexuality's just an example. I'm hoping for more variety rather than the same jaded statements over and over again. I remember an article Michie posted a while back that, if I remember correctly, talked about things that needed to change at a parish level. I thought it was interesting, but no one really else did until the thread got rolling after a couple of sarcastic comments.

Why not discipline yourself to avoid posting topics that you yourself don't care to issue a statement on? It cabe as simple as "I agree with this because..." or "this is wrong because..." or "I'm conflicted because..."
Because not every topic I post incites conflict. As I've said before, I post for reading or discussion. Reflections for example don't really need comment unless someone feels compelled to do so. The Pope tweaking his coat of arms is another example. Just give it a chance & we'll see how it works out.

^_^ Figures. When all else fails try sarcasm. :p

So, perhaps only comment on articles that are more provocative or opinion related?

I agree that simple news articles can speak for themselves.
I can go for that.

Keep doing what you're doing. You perform a service. Nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to read anything.

Agree. Same here.

Well it goes without saying that I think Michie's positively awesome and a really neat poster. That's a given!

Most folks who hate hearing about homosexuality on here are the pro-"gay marriage" crowd. Just an observation.

Personally, I think discussing the same-sex attraction community takeover of our country is quite pertinent to OBOB. Why? Because most of us cannot discuss this in the public sphere without being completely blacklisted, loathed, mocked, and even fired from our jobs!

In California, homosexual history is now law for the classroom. We teachers are compelled to teach it. In my neck of the woods and in most of CA, we haven't heard boo about it and nothing is being taught. But with the new adoptions of history books in the next few years, it will doubtless be in there!

Teachers are being fired for voicing their opposition to the same-sex attraction community's takeover of our country. People are losing jobs over it.

On Facebook, companies, school districts, counties, and other industries are using this social media spot to find out who is not a "true believer" of the new secular humanist morality.

If a Catholic, or in my case, Orthodox Christian who loves Catholicism and Catholics, cannot speak about this issue here, well, we're running out of places to discuss it. And it needs to be discussed.

And some people blasted the notion of discussing Vatican II and its potential pitfalls. Why?

I think one thing I see in OBOB that is lacking is some fun. There are no "favorite TV shows" or "favorite movies" or "greatest guitar player ever?" or "name your top ten favorite songs" types of threads. It's all business. A little fun would do a lot.

I also observe far left and far right go out of their way to provoke each other on here. In Catholicism, there is no far left or far right. An ideal pope ticks off both extremes...as he should!

This would be a huge improvement in my opinion...

I'm not pro-gay marriage. Actually, the more time goes by the more I'm against it because of things like Christians losing their jobs when they say it's not right. But, I am tired of a group of people who make up 3% of the population taking up 97% of our discourse. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of them.
