So I had a run-in with an old enemy at the gym last night

No you're not. You're normal. You were faced with an unexpected situation and had to assess very quickly how you wanted to handle it. I think you did the right thing.

Now, you've had some time to think it over and react a little stronger to the situation b/c the shock of the situation has worn off.

God was in control of that situation, or you may very well have pounded the snot outta that punk. Instead of thinking you're a disgrace, look at it like you were showing His grace. :)

x2

At least you didn't do anything you'd regret later. Just think, that guy will always be looking over his shoulder for you. Maybe it will wake his conscience up.

I think it's good you didn't beat the crap out of him, I'm sure he was expecting it, but....I DO think you should have asked him, "Hey man, you took off and never gave me the engine, what's up with that?" BUT it's probably bothering him more than you now, AND he's the one that has to answer to God for what he did, whether he's a Christian or not, and if he's not....all he has to look forward to is judgement anyway.

Thanks guys for all the responses.

I've found that sometimes, it's good for the ol' sense of humility to put one's head on the proverbial chopping block to get a better perspective on things. (The more public, the better.) I welcome constructive criticism and am in fact just as thankful for it as I am for the support I get: if I didn't have the weight of my detractors to bear down on me and keep me grounded, I would never get any better.

Thanks again.

And you know what else Rob? God will repay you anyway, no matter what that guy did because of the grace you showed him, I am sure of that! What Satan means for evil God always turns to good to those that love the Lord and I know you are one of those that love Him so....God Bless you!

You did the right thing. By not doing anything to the guy, you not only obeyed the Lord but you left the door open for God to get vengence on your behalf. I think the reason God doesn't fight a lot of our battles is because we do it. But God says 'Vengence is MINE'. By backing away, we may look weak, but we are actually mightier in that instance than we would have been if we had handled the situation our way. That is why you never want to mess with a person who will love you when you hate them, double up what you steal from them, pray for you when you persecute them. Because when you mess with that kind of person, you are now challenging El Elyon. The Most High God.
