• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi everybody,
i haven't posted in a while, but i've been reading other people's posts...

This is a really crazy obsession that I've been having, and I don't know how to deal with it. It has to do with my taxes. The government owed me quite a bit of money this year, but after filing I found out I'd made a small mistake (about $180), which would have changed my refund slightly. I didn't alter it (I'd already filed), but I didn't cash my refund either b/c of that little bit of money. But I can't get it out of my head; I have this urge to go back and file a correction, because I did it wrong and shouldn't have recieved quite as much money as I did. (and it's not like I'm planning to cash the check, either.) So I feel like I'm going crazy. Help!

regarding this obsession if you can go back and do the right thing then that would be great if it is too late to do so then you must find another way to deal with it ..

now normally speaking giving into compulsions is not a good thing though i do it every day ...but in this case i think maybe you should ...

yeah, maybe, the thing is that I'm not sure what to do. I mean, I'm a very conscientious person, and if it was a large amount of money we're talking about here I would of course change it right away. But we're talking maybe 20 dollars difference in my taxes here. Would it be silly to change it now?

Hi Tulip,
You didn't do it on purpose. I do think the OCD is blowing it way out of proportion. If you just can't let it go I would go ahead and cash the check and then write the IRS a letter explaining your mistake with a $20 check made out to the United States Treasury. Then just forget it. Balls in their court then - right?
OCD demands perfection sometimes doesn't it?
