  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hi a friend from church told me to come here cause there is alot of people here who could give me some words of wisdom. The other day after church a few of us went to the mall and I said to everyone that I had to go buy bus tickets and I would meet them near the walmart. anways I lied to them I went outside and had a smoke, my friend saw this and confronted me. I told him I wasn't to sure how it really started and I do want to quit but latly things in life have been hard and sometimes temptation for something like smoking up is hard. He said a few things to me that showed support but he said I should talk to a elder prehabs they could give some better words.

Warez,

Last year I helped a woman who had been addicted to smoking for many years quit in a matter of an hr or so using EFT. It was truly amazing. To my knowledge, she hasn't had a cigarette since we did the EFT. Also, it didn't cost her anything....no drugs, no psycho-therapy, or whatever other things someone wanting to quit has to do. I wrote a post on EFT probably a couple weeks ago.

http://christianforum.com/t690206

EFT has helped me also quit my addictive behaviors (not smoking but OCD). Truly amazing and a God-send.

If you have any questions, email, IM me or you can post here.

Best Regards,
Doris

How bad is your smoking habit? Is it a habit or is it just stepping out every now and then for a smoke? How much per wk to you smoke? There are things worse then smoking but i'll have a smoke every now and then to relax. I'm really lucky though,,it has never developed into something that is habitual.

I also have a smoking problem which I believe gave me a cough a few weeks ago. It was really bad at first but anymore I only cough maybe once per day. Mainly I just get this gunk built up in my chest (from sinus drainage I believe) and I have to cough that up. Yuck! Anyway, I know God has been calling me to quit smoking for the past few weeks and I just can't seem to do it. I am pretty sure that I am addicted. I only smoke about 4-5 packs a week. There for a while I'd smoke 3/4 a pack a day but somehow I got myself down to where 1 pack can last me approximately 2 1/2 days. I really don't know how I did that but I just started doing it. Also, I switched from full flavor to lights. My favorites are Salem Green Label Lights and Kool Milds. I used to be able to enjoy non-menthol but anymore I highly prefer menthol to regulars. I'm not sure why but I think it might have something to do with the fact that I love anything that even vaguely has a mint flavor. I am thinking about trying to quit and just chew mint gum or suck on a peppermint when I get the craving. I really don't actually suffer from physical symptoms that I know of though. I truly believe it is mostly if not entirely psychological. It seems to have become a habit that if I don't have a cigarette that I go and buy a pack or bum one off of someone. Of course, I prefer my Salems and Kools so I usually go and buy a pack anyway because none of my friends smoke Salems or Kools. I know I should quit smoking but I have a lot of stress and I usually smoke when I am stressed out. However, I do usually smoke about once every hour or two. Sometimes I smoke more frequently. It just depends on my mood. My family wants me to quit smoking, especially my Grandpa. He only has one fully working lung. The other one barely works at all. The reason being that he smoked for a while. He quit sometime back in the 80s after he had a heart attack and the doctor told him he needed to quit smoking right then or else he might not live any longer. Needless to say, he quit cold turkey that day and hasn't touched one since. He is also quit sensitive to the smell of smoke on people's clothes and stuff and he can often smell it on me. I hate disapointing him and making him mad over my smoking but it has honestly become a habit that I can't seem to control on my own. I can't afford patches or gums so I am stuck with quiting on my own. Anyway, just thought I'd share my own experience. Also, to anyone who is trying to decide whether or not to start smoking, please don't start! Believe me, it is not easy to quit. I have tried quite a few times and have been unsuccessful and I have only smoked for about a year and a half consistently. Before then I smoked maybe once or twice a year. Believe me, starting the habit is NOT worth it. It costs way too much money and it's bad for your health. God wants us to treat our temple better than that. I am not condemning anyone who already smokes but I will encourage any current smokers to quit. I am going to try and quit as soon as I finish this new pack of Salems I bought this evening. I say that all the time but I honestly hope to stop this time. I was going to quit after I ran out of my last pack of Kools but I just had an impulse to buy some Salems and did so. Warez, I'll pray that you are able to quit before you become addicted if you aren't already. Nevertheless, I'll pray that you can quit as soon as possible. It's an expensive habit that definitely isn't worth it. I should have known better to begin with but I also gave in to temptation like so many others. Please do not think that I am lecturing. I honestly am not trying to. I just feel rather strongly about the topic. My health has gone down significantly since I started smoking. Mostly in mild breathing problems that occur every once in a while. I know that when I quit though I'll go back to feeling a lot healthier again. Later and God Bless!

Earlier in this thread, or in a different thread of the same topic, I gave some links to a book I recomend America:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/076071200X/qid=1087196967/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-8982529-5674329?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
Uk:http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0140277633/ref=pd_sim_b_dp_2/026-5444095-7566053

France:http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/2266131516/qid=1087197398/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i7_xgl14/402-9941146-8362554

I have finally been able to read the book, though I am not a smoker. I highly recomend you read this book. I know that most people are too lazy or not trusting to take advice from something somebody wrote on a forum, but trust me, those of you who are smoking and know you should quit but can't, this is the book for you. I read it myself, so I can tell you what is in the book. Basically the writer (who used to smoke 100 a day and then went to 0 in one day with no difficulty) convinces you that you do not want another cigarette. He shows the lies that society propagates about smoking being a calmer and being relaxing. It would take too long to explain here and the book explains it to perfection, but basically, all this smoking=enjoyable & relaxing is un illusion. The fear of smokers, is how they will survive with out a cigarette, but this writer basically takes that fear away. Just read the book, order it today. What can I do to convince you to read it? This book has a 90% success rate, though usually 30% don't follow his advice and touch a cigarette three months later when they are no longer adicted/dependant, just because they think to themselves "stopping is so easy one cigarette won't hurt" but then it takes one cigarette to get started again so they end up becoming adicted again. But if you follow all the advice in this book, your success rate is 90%. And it is easy. And if it really doesn't help you, then just re-sell the book you will thus get your money back.

What else can I do to get you to read this book? I'd gladly send it to you if I had enough money to do so for each of you smokers on this thread, but please, do yourselves the favor and buy this book. Or go to a therapy center of this guy who wrote the book. There your money is reimburced if you are not free three months from your therapy session. Look at this link:

I haven't been able to find the web site in the U.K. or America, but you can try these e-mails:

Try the last two first. I don't know if these e-mails are good because they are from the book I have that is 7 years old.
