Oxycontin is a pain reducer much like weed (to a degree) Sadly many users use weed for selfish gains such as tripping and mellowing out. I was guilty of that once and new it was used for pain relief but never hid the fact that I was using it for a laugh. At the end of the day it was a diversion on finding happiness through Christ and made me into a different person for a few hours. When it comes to the legalities I am not sure it is relevant if you are following the bible for every word which I try to even though we all have many interpretations. One has to ask is this habit helping or hindering my walk with Christ? And what would Jesus do or say on the matter? I dont know your depth in Christianity so it is hard to explain. If in doubt, get out I say! I hope this make sense I am rubbish at explaining myself.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

Surely therefore, smoking in whatever form is a sin. I used to do it and it it never did me any favours in drawing closer to God.

So then I know that if you esteem it unclean then to you it is unclean.

Not "surely therefore" it is sin to me.

Misapplication of Scripture. The reference is to things (such as food) that are necessary for our sustenance. Marijuana doesn't fit that category.

    The misapplication was done here.

    Leaving out 18
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

You cannot sin against or defile your body with what you consume.
    PERIOD.
It may be another letter from Paul, but he did not contradict himself in any of his letters.

You have to read em all my brother.

No, sorry, but the misapplication is completely on you. Marijuana is not food. It was not given for man to "use" as were the other plants, which were given solely for food, though some also have medicinal properties. I know I'm going to be sorry I said that, but nonetheless, despite whatever arguments you will post to the contrary, marijuana is useless, and very harmful. Hence, the warning against defiling the temple is applicable.

You're not going to offer any argument I haven't heard, or one I can't refute. However, we both know continuing in this vein would be a waste of both our times and productivities. So let's agree to disagree and let it go. No one is going to change their mind.

Sorry but these verses are about wine also, which is not needed to sustain life.
You are trying to promote a false doctrine of touch not taste not handle not.
As if God commands us not to.
Sorry but the word of God is not in meat and drink.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come ; but the body is of Christ. 18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen , vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered , and knit together , increaseth with the increase of God. 20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances , 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

I seek peace and joy with you.
If you wish to suffer a personal humillity for God, go for it.
However you will find nowhere that Paul, or Christ tells us to inflict our faith as doctrine on others.
    Actually quite the contrary.
If you continue to try and refute this you will be sewing discord, and not merely saying you disagree that smoking is not a sin.

    This.

Using the cannabis for its psychoactive properties, for whatever reason, is not a sin unless it put in priority over God.

You know how God intended humans to use different kinds of plants? Could you send me a complete list of which plants God intended to be used as foods and medicines and those that are apparently medicinal, but probably planted by Satan.

Note: This is sarcasm (not an argument)--> we wouldn't want to waste our times and productivities

Yeah. If its harming the body and killing your brain cells, than it probably means it isn't good for you. God doesn't suggest what is not good for you.

I really don't know anymore. Eschtology is a very strange animal and the New Testament is incredibly - frighteningly - vague on many things after 'love god with all of your heart, mind and soul' and then 'love your neighbor as yourself'.

I suppose you have to look at it this way: what you could or couldn't cogently argue, what you know to be helpful vs. harmful (obviously quantity and timing), etc.

Have more then enough friends who were successful, Christian (albeit perhaps not whole-hat), and daily cannabis smokers. In my early 20's I pretty much made my full rounds on every class of drug you can think of with the exception of the hardest of the hard (H, crack, PCP, etc.) and some of the more out-of-the-way impossible to find designers - in other words I'd never be one to throw stones on this topic.

I do know that there have been some rather cogent arguments that psychedellics at least are 'pharmakeia' or in essence they're considered tools for magick, contacting spirits, etc. so in that sense there's a much more distinct sorcery and witchcraft connection with LSD, psilocybin, DMT, DXM, mescaline, peyote, etc. etc.. With marijuana at least you're probably safe from that charge, unless that is you're smoking bud for the sake of getting in contact with familiar spirits (which I kinda doubt).

We serve a just God. We do not have to argue points with other Christians. If they are ignorant to think how easily their doctrine fits their life; so it extends to anyone else. I have to believe God will show them the truth just as He has me. I am a pain patient with permanent nerve damage from two failed back surgeries. I was on opiates and was addicted after awhile. Went through three years of literal hell from withdrawals and anxiety with panic attacks to get off opiates. During this whole time I was in deep prayer and fellowship with God. God showed me that cannabis was a healing plant when used appropriately. I used cannabis to deal with pain and withdrawal symptoms. People do not realize how cannabis has been lied about and hidden from the public. If we knew the truth we wouldn't allow many pharmaceuticals in our body that have a devastating effect on you. We would use cannabis. I can not take pain medicine for my daily pain. I am addicted to it. I will abuse it. I can however take cannabis and walk away from it with no withdrawals or side effects. Do you serve a God that would not of thought all this out. There is specific situations and illnesses that need cannabis for nerve healing in general. It slows down and makes it a relaxed constant reception with nerve endings and your central nervous system in brain. I knew a person with MS that was so shakey they couldn't stop shaking with involuntary movement of nerves. On all medication offered for it. I would bring them cannabis and after two consumptions of cannabis they took the cannabis from ever so gentle and finished it. It was like a miracle. No other medicine helped this way., Yopu think God is against this? Everything that is good comes from above. I have a ministry for God where I spread the gospel, bible devotion at hope center for addicts, do biblical studies and sermons online. All this is an outreach that I stay entrenched in with all my time. I have found peace with God yet my old self always doubts it because of my past. The devil constantly wants me to doubt anything God has put in my life. God will show you the devil is a liar and causes confusion. If I don't medicate myself I get very anxious and ill get nervous from the pain. My nerves are shot from constant pain. Yet if I use just a little it doesn't not inhibit me from doing anything. Especially anything for God. Do you think He expects this type person to suffer because your understanding is not in love of Christ? Do you think God is unjust to some? Who is any Christian to judge any other Christian? God can make a man stand. There is no way you can discredit something biblically that is so effective in many situations to relieve medical conditions with zero side effects. You can abuse any food and get fat. You can abuse anything and have a bad effect from it. All things are lawful but not all things are profitable. I find cannabis profitable to my situation. Not by abusing it but by using it for what it was intended for. You ever tried showing love when your nerves are a mess and frantic? How important is it to be loving and kind so that they will see Christ in you? Your brain cells that are effected by cannabis are short term memory cells that are reproduced. However if you constantly abuse it and misuse it then you may have some forgetfulness and procrastination. This can be rebuilt in time by not partaking as much. Otherwise it heals itself. I spend many hours a day in prayer and meditation to God. Constantly seeking His truth in His Word. I am replying to this post in agreement with ecclectic79 and opposed to anyone that disagrees that cannabis can be a solution aside from pharmaceuticals that destroy people. I am not condoning just anyone using cannabis to get high. This is a whole other animal. I thi8nk there is an intent and purpose for many things that God created and our judgement should be withheld in prayer and supplication for all saints. We all must live to be ONE in Christ. The Church of Corinth was wicked because of the division. One said he was of Paul, the other Appolos, the other said they were of Jesus Christ. No matter who they said they were of..they were all causing division.Paul said he was glad he didn't baptize many of them because they would say they were not of the doctrine of others but of Paul. There is no division in Christ. This should not be so. You take away judgement; then you take away division. You can discern a spirit with out voicing judgement towards them. We are to be united in Christ as One. We are the body of Christ. I love you all and thank you eclectic for your stand on love and understanding in Christ.

    Here is my take.:

Cannabis is a plant that God gave us. Since it is a plant, (if it is not poisonous) to be used like a plant. Food, spice and tea. Smoking it is the equivalent of pouring a bottle of wine in a bong and downing it. It just gets you all stoned. We know we are not supposed to get drunk on wine, but the reason is that it leads to debauchery. We are not told that substances that make us feel good are evil. Paul told the Colossians that having rules about ingesting or not ingesting substances makes no difference. Its not what goes into the body that defiles it, but rather what comes out.

Alcohol in excess causes us to loosen our moral standards and do/say/think things we normally would not. Many get aggressive and combatant, while Cannabis kind of does the opposite. Instead of being loose-lipped, it causes one to scrutinize thoughts/words/actions. It gives one a sense of happiness and well-being. It's most incredible benefit is allowing us to look at things from multiple perspectives rather than cling to learned ideologies.

When used as intended, the mild effects of cannabis are highly beneficial in numerous ways both physically and mentally. Our bodies are actually MADE to ingest cannabis! One of the most extensive systems in our bodies is the endocannabanoid system. We have receptors in our brain and gut that are made by God to accept CBD and THC. It easily passes through the blood-brain barrier, as the body sees it as not only friendly, but highly beneficial.

In the coming years, we will find out that the governments lied to us. They know that alcohol keeps people self-absorbed. Cannabis gives us the ability to see through false notions and they HATE that because everything they do to us is about keeping us under their control.
It is not a drug and is not dangerous.
It both prevents and cures many mental and physical issues we have.
If we all started eating or drinking cannabis and stopped eating meat I truly believe that cancer and heart disease will heavily decline.

Though there is no shred of evidence that smoking it is harmful, it just seems like a poor choice. Burning up a substance and inhaling the burnt leftovers.
    My 2 cents.

    Bless up!
