I don't use a smartphone either. I'm rocking a Samsung Rugby II. It's military-grade in durability and works just fine. I like it cause it has a place on it that's built in where I can clip a necklace to it and wear it around my neck.

I'm guessing people like smartphones for all the apps there are out there. At least that's what I'm hedging my bets on. o_O

I've only owned two smartphones in my life.. the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy S6. Due for an upgrade and can go to the store and get one right now.. but eh.. the power and screen quality the S6 has.. I don't really care. Have like a 60 dollar protective case. Dropped my phone many times on concrete with no worry. Works just as good as before. Honestly surprise the battery is still good after all these years.

They're nice to own. Easy to surf the net and whatnot. Like a personal computer in your pocket. Like I said before, you don't need to get a fancy one. 10 years ago.. each new model really mattered.. but now pretty much any smartphone on the market should be more than capable.

Convenience, portability, and camera quality. They come in handy at conferences and social media events. I get good shots without hauling a DSLR. I use Apple products. iOS has the lion’s share of lifestyle apps.

A life without Spotify in my pocket?

No thanks. I know what life was like before that, and I don't want to go back.

Walkman's, MP3's, iPods, just DON'T compare.

I've heard of it.. but what exactly is Spotify? Lol. Just a music service?

I was sort of forced prematurely into getting a smart phone before I wanted to due to the wire (land line) going to my house died on me leaving me without communication so I went and got a cell phone the next day (flip) and it took a week to transfer the number over then when my flip phone account was about to expire I bought a nice smart phone and a little while later bought a micro SD card and have all my music on the phone.
Having the internet is a bonus and not having to hang around the house waiting for a phone call is nice too.
I've had many times I needed a smart phone due to car troubles like losing my keys, having a starter go out, Idle Air Control valve malfunctioning, run low on transmission fluid video chatting with my sister overseas, comparing prices when running around using the internet, keeping notes about things I need and want, using it for an alarm clock when at work to nap during lunch. Using the camera to take pictures of stuff for reference. I've even used a compass app I bought when I was in an area outside of town and got turned around not knowing which way to go.
I also downloaded a bunch of movies that I have UV digital copies of to my phone so I can watch them when I get stranded somewhere for hours without anything to do. My phone also has my email on it so when I get an email it notifies me so I can check and see if I need to read/answer it.

I don't own one. I don't technically plan on ever owning one. I use a flip phone that I bought in like 2005, I believe.

But I'd like to know:

Do you have a smartphone? And what's the point of having one?

I must confess that what motivated to get a smart phone recently was to be able to communicate with this girl I met. Haha! I kinda regret it now. I mainly use it for listening to sermons, playing chess, WhatsApp, photos, music and right now to send this message :)

Even Steve Wozniak agrees with you. This is kinda funny.

I bought my first smart phone on 30 Dec 2015 for £114.99, and I've still got it. I don't owe any money on it, and my only regular expense is the monthly sim card subscription. For £20 a month I get unlimited UK calls and text messages, and 80GB of data on a 4G network.

I mostly use it for connecting to the internet. In fact it actually saves me money, because I only need to pay £20 a month, and I totally avoid paying for a separate home broadband connection. It's also useful for checking the latest weather forecast when I'm away from home to see if anything has changed. I don't use many of the apps apart from the web browser, camera, and music player.

So far it's worked very well for me. The only problem was I had to prize the back off and replace the battery after a few years because it had started ballooning, but the new battery was very cheap. I will keep using it until it breaks, can't be repaired, or becomes obselete, then I'll buy a new one. A lot of people in the UK are upgrading their phone every year or two, and spending double or triple what I am.

Yeah, but better. (It's like a database or a library.)

The fact that I have instant, unlimited access to all of my favourite songs, albums and playlists, anywhere and at anytime is honestly the best thing about being alive in this generation.

It put an end to rubbish airline movies, nonsense second hand train conversations, and made every walk I ever go on 1,000 times better.

Thank you Spotify.
