  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was going to say it was the "Sciatic nerve" too. Have you tryed sleeping on your side? I'm also 5 weeks along and also having trouble sleeping on my back, even though the baby is only the size of a grain of rice LOL. I found sleeping on my side is much better.

Yea.. I've tried sleeping on my sides and that doesn't seem to help. The funny thing is that during the day it doesn't seem to bother me at all.

It normally starts once I've been laying down for a while and then the pain will wake me up in the middle of the night. It's more "annoying pain" than anything else and only seems to be on one of my sides at a time. Maybe my body is preparing or already starting to stretch? Who knows lol..

Yes, sounds like sciatic. I had this with my 3 pregnancies too.

what does help is to stretch your hamstring muscles (back of your legs).

Try laying on your back at the edge of the bed. Have your DH lift your leg and stretch it toward your head. This helped me alot!
The more flexable those muscles are the less pain you will have in that area. my pain used to start at my ankle and go all the way up through my butt to my lower back!

i didnt know that name of the nerve, but mine was hurting me back before Christmas. it would hurt all the way down my leg and at times i couldn't move because it hurt so bad, my dr said that the baby was just laying on it and that i should sleep on my other side to help alleviate the pain...it eventually went away, but i still don't rest well.

It sounds more like pelvic girdle pain rather then sciatic pain, during pregnancy your body produces a hormone called relaxin which relaxes the ligaments around your pelvis and can lead to all sorts of pain, most commonly a pain in the buttock area.

Here's some info on PGP that you might find interesting.

There are two things it is likely to be. If it's along the inner thigh, and is a shooting pain, it's probably the sciatic. If it's in back, in the joint of your butt cheek, it's probably ligaments softening.

Sciatic pain is caused by baby resting on the sciatic nerve and pinching it. I had it pretty bad with my first. What helped me was lying on my side with a pillow between my legs. I've heard pregnancy pillows (those long body pillows) do wonders, and they look like they would.

The butt cheek pain is caused by hormones loosening your ligaments. They are to help with labor, so everything can stretch, widening the birth canal for baby; but in the meantime, they're a real frustration. I have that one a lot with this pregnancy, and Tylenol helps some.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I was gonna say.. it couldn't be
pressure from the baby cause it's not even an inch yet! lol..:)

Whatever it was.. The pain or ache seemed to go away and I don't
have it anymore..

Another thing you can try is chiropractic care. I couldn't have made it through my last 3 pregnancies without my chiropractor~ especially my last. I had constant pain in my hips and only an adjustment would help. I felt like I was living at my chiro's office there at the end. lol
