I have heard a lot of testimonies of people in their beds awake but unable to move when they feel, see, or hear a dark presence in their room. I'm not sure if people are aware of what sleep paralysis is but whenever I hear this testimony, this is the first thing my mind jumps to. I want to make a clear point first which is, I am a believer and I do believe in demonic attacks but whenever I hear this one, I feel horribly guilty because my assumption immediately jumps to sleep paralysis.

For those of you who do not know what it is, sleep paralysis is a time when you are conscious in bed but are paralyzed for a few minutes due to the chemicals your brains puts our when you sleep to relax your muscles for optimal sleep patterns (if that is not a sign of a genius Creator than I don't know what is). Often times though we can still be in a dream like state where we hallucinate and see things that would normally be in our dreams but are now affecting our consciousness.

My question for this is, do you think that this physical phenomenon is caused by demons? For me personally I believe that many mental conditions are caused by demonic attack, like schizophrenia, bi-polar, etc. Not to say that all people who have this are demon possessed but I do believe that demons attacking your spirit can have physical side effects. I'm curious to hear what you say about sleep paralysis too? If God uses visions within our dreams to convey to us a message, then most certainly I believe the prince of darkness can use dreams and the physical to put us into a state of fear as well. What do you think?

I think could be either or both. I have experienced partial sleep paralysis ... what I determined was I was in a state of "mostly" sleep ... but not total sleep .... once I did fully awake ... the paralysis went away ... I did not feel the experience was in any way demonic. But that was just my experience for what it's worth.

Yea, I have heard that the majority of people do not have hallucinations but many do. I think what it boils down to, is that God uses the physical and spiritual to bring His children to Him. He created our brain chemistry and all of this and is the master of our bodies and He uses whatever He will to draw in His people. But also, like I stated, the devil will also use our wonderfully created bodies as vessels for evil as well. So I agree with you, both either or both.

I would not rule out demonic action, but such does seem to be fairly rare.

The devil sat on my chest and tried to suffocate me. A black shadow figure. I have heard it explained away by science but it was absolutely real. It took three episodes before I actually saw him. Jesus then revealed himself to me not long after that and the paralysis stopped.

I have experienced two episodes of sleep paralysis (in 70 years, both in a ten-day period 33 years ago). Both occurred in mid-afternoon and were accompanied by an overpowering sense of Pure Evil. This is the "Old Hag" phenomenon that dates back hundreds of years and is described in David Hufford's seminal book, The Terror that Comes in the Night.

As a longtime student of the paranormal, I'm 95% convinced these events were not supernatural. I have some doubt because this was a newly-built rural home on what had been Native American land (there were artifacts all over the place). Nothing had ever been built there before. So I do wonder if we may have disturbed some unfriendly spirits.
