Catlover, what is it about you my dear friend that makes me drop whatever I'm doing and scurry to a place if you suggest going there?

LOL!

I think there are some good people in that thread, Honor, they've just relied on hate sites to see what our denomination teaches.

I don't see discussion as always about debate/defending, BUT I'll tell you what....I'm seriously considering started a Word document to address all the issues that were brought up in there so I can just copy/paste. I didn't see anything there that I haven't discussed at length in the past.

Every once and a while someone LISTENS when you answer, and that's a good feeling, but we never know when we planted a seed that gets watered later, you know?

Okay, it's official. I'm a thread killer. I've killed several threads today.

SUPER POWERS....ACTIVATE! haha

Honor, it just occurred to me that you might think I'm "dismissing" you not wanting to explain your beliefs.

Trust me, I'm not. I took a break from "explaining" for a very long time as you know, and just took time to regroup, heal, and get stronger.

I totally respect your right to do the exact same thing! The unfortunate thing about this earth is that some people have it in their heads that in order for someone to be humbled, they must be humiliated (by them).

Take a break from it, I totally understand!!

Hi Everyone,

OK, I'll try this again. Since I tangled with staff it has become impossible to know if what I attempt to post will actually show up. This is the third try for this one.

Just for fun you might want to take another look at the thread that Catlover gave the link to. I didn't take a look at it until there were about 80 post already made. It will be interesting to see how many more post will be made there.

Your brother in Christ,
Doc

Oh Doc, I don't know if I have it in me to go back to that thread. The last time I went there, it was a huge trainwreck.

Progressive Adventists were talking about the scriptures not being inspired, etc etc and I'm afraid those people think that the official doctrine of the church denounces the holy scriptures. Maybe that was the intention, I don't know.

I may check it out later.

No, Lainie--I never took offense to you jumping into the fray--lol--or that somehow by doing so you were dismissing my reluctance to do the same.

We have had enough private talks about this topic for me to know that you know how I feel about it.

Knowing what's ahead, should this slandering over there, even though the thread has been closed, surprise us?
It shouldn't surprise me, but it does.

More surprising to me, however, was how energetically every SDA posted compared to the normal forum-goers. Not just Traditionals, but Progressives and Formers too. When I stumbled upon the thread, there was a lot of uncertainty about who we are. Then MaidForHim comes along and posts her views on Ellen White with lots of info (very biased info, if you ask me, but she still did her homework). I come along and try to show a more central viewpoint with whatever I could dig up on the fly. TrustAndObey comes along and posts some very eloquent things and yet more info. Then it seemed like every SDA here (on all sides, mind you) came in with tons of strong views for every viewpoint. I felt bad for the non-denom section for witnessing the huge broadsides that pushed the thread over the edge.

What I was most taken aback by was how well read SDA's are compared to the non-denominational section. I go to other sections of the forums where the views are more general, and I see a lot of stated opinion with little to nothing to back them up. I come to the SDA sections expecting to see long, well-written and researched points, no matter what side, and I'm rarely let down. On one hand, it's fantastic, but on the other hand, it's a bit scary.

I think the conversation was pretty typical of what people think about our denomination, and I understand the concerns when someone really doesn't have all of the facts.

Unless you know an Adventist or ARE an Adventist, it's really impossible to know if someone is trying to "earn" salvation or just being obedient out of love (which is ONLY possible with help from the Holy Spirit)...and it still does bother me when someone just assumes we're trying to work our way to heaven. That's when they step over into judging our hearts, and that's not okay with me.

I do understand it though because we, as a society, tend to throw sticks at or make generalizations about the things that aren't considered mainstream. You see the same sort of thing in a chicken house...lol! In the pecking order, we certainly aren't at the top, and I'd be more worried if we were.

Occasionally I run into someone that is absolutely blatant about their hatred towards us (instead of hiding behind subtle jabs), and when that happens--it's amazing to see non-SDAs come in and say "whoa....let go of the anger!"

I wish people were more blatant and said what they mean, because the fruits of that are much scarier than what I saw in that thread, believe me. True hatred for a fellow believer is something nobody is comfortable with, but just because some people are better at hiding it doesn't mean it isn't there.

When you preach the truth, you rile up the devil. He fears the truth more than anything in this world.

Mt 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
