I hoesntly was not impressed. It seems to have a very angry feel to it. Even after listening to it twice I found myself in that "mad" mood where I was just angry. You can't even sing it to yourself without realizing that your saying some pretty mean stuff. I really enjoy Skillet's music but this song I didn't care for. It's going to be on their re-issued CD and it's about the relationship with his Dad as he was growing up. I understand people have emotions but the song just doesn't work for me. Plus I see as a guy in his 30's does he really need to express anger in music by screaming at him? I wish they would have chosen a more upbeat song but thats just me. Anyways off to get my signature! Oh and I really do enjoy Skillet as a band I love all their styles (Industrial, Metal, Rock, Ballads, they're all great I just didn't like how the song felt so angry)

This is a review by the Dallas Music Guide, after they went mainstream.
SKILLET - COLLIDE
(Lava)

Having stripped themselves of the Christian label yet retaining their faith, Skillet have now joined the ranks of Blindside and P.O.D. who let their viable musicianship and quality songs carry their name, not their reliance on a genre. Skillet’s mix of throaty angst and sincere emotive qualities found in their lyrics has now put them in a position to escape the Forefront records days and recreate themselves as a serious rock unit with chops to match. Tracks like ‘Forsaken” and “Savior” take a more bare bones radio-oriented approach that runs down the road that the likes of Godsmack have taken, while the title track combines the electronic orchestral atmospherics of Linkin Park with vast echoing choruses. “Fingernails” seethes with the menace of The Disturbed minus the faux sentiment before breaking into a swinging groove that will get the little girls pom-poms shaking. “Under My Skin” shines a light on the track that will probably put this band on the mainstream map, as its acoustic rock intro melts into an easy to swallow rock wallop, think of some of Staind’s better tearjerkers and there you have it. Attention Lava, this track is your way in, don’t argue, I am a professional. With that said, the puss factor gets kicked to the curb with “Energy” as it drop D’s itself into your kidneys, and the closer “Cycle Down” slaps your inner child right into the cellar with hardcore pacing that fades into that whole moody guitar tone that Pantera mastered on “This Love”. Not that Skillet has the huevos of that Texas wrecking ball, but for a bunch of guys who fear God, this ain’t too far away from Hell.

probably read it wrong, i don't know, it seems like a very jacked up article.
rest assured, skillet is going mainstream to share the love of Christ, not to sell more cds. yes selling more cds is an added bonus, but unlike most other bands who go mainstream, their desire is for God to use them and their music to bring people to Him, not to make a living and become famous.

i love skillet. i know this probably doesn't sound like a very christian thing... but i actually like the heavy, raspy, sorta angry sound of them... i like "angry" music that's still christian (such as skillet, blindside and chevelle...) i'm not an angry person though...

To the review, first of all, Collide was originally released on Ardent records, a Christian label. So as for them "going mainstream," or having "stripped themselves of the Christian label" it's hard for me to see that as their original intent with this album.

It's more likely that Lava (whoever that is), liked the album and thought that it was good enough to make it in the mainstream, so they contacted Skillet and got a deal to re-release the album on their label. Now if you're Skillet, what are YOU going to say? Nah, I don't want to sell more records? I think not.

And before you go down the road, Skillet DOES share the Gospel in concert. There's no "hiding the message." Of course, it now remains to be seen what the increased exposure will do to their faith.

Ive listened to one song by skillet, and although they may be a christian band, i honestly didnt think that song glorified God. I can only speak from that one song, but there is a CLEAR DIFFERENCE between a christian band, and a christian band that glorifies God.

God Bless, metal.

I loathe to get this started, but not EVERY song has to be a praise song. Has that point never been made?

Unfortunately, I can't defend EVERY band this way (ie. Switchfoot, POD, etc), but with a worship album under their belt, with the same core members, and having seen them live less than a year ago, I feel pretty safe that Skillet IS a Christian band (that also glorifies God), even by bleechers' standards (although maybe not PUC's).

I kinda ignored the opening post for the review....

Where do you hear "Open Wounds?" Is it being played on mainstream radio? I think the current single on Christian radio is "My Obsession."

...and why wouldn't they release "Savior" first on mainstream?
Savior is the first single on rock radio, just like it was for christian rock radio

ONE song!?!?! Um lets see..have you heard...angels fall down...come my way..will you be there...the whole alien youth CD is glorifying god. This new cd is not a praising god CD its a christian band singing about the troubles of the world with songs such as Inperfection, Savior and Forsaken and the up and coming Open Wounds. And if you think christians don't have pain then your very very wrong. It's a good CD and still has the message of god!

Actually they had been feeling God pulling them towards mainstream music. It is official that they are mainstream. Yes lava did go hey would u like this oppurtonity but Skillet was already looking for it.
