  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Alot of it depends on your body type. This weekend I whent to an ab workshop with a super fit super ab-knowledeable instructor who didn't have one (or so she said). Regular ab work and a healthy diet is what I would recomend if you want to tone your abs. A six pack is cool looking, but it doesn't really make much of a difference to peple whether you have one or not. Love your two-pack, your just where God wants you right now. And if you do get a six pack then great, but if not you can still be super fit.

6-packs are overrated. I've seen guys w/ six-packs fall down when they get punched or kicked in the abs (and we don't do it hard, either, at Tae Kwon Do). I guess it really depends on the individual person though...

Yeah, the Rectus abdominis is pretty superficial as far as core muscles go. Also, big shoulders, chest and back are better babe magnets than abs could ever hope to be.

I actually found a short book on getting abs. Most of it consists of ab workout with floor exercises and medicine balls, but I think you can't really get a six pack without getting the necessary weight training equipment. But don't expect any progress unless you have adequate rest; that's when all the change happens. And if your abs aren't showing, the book suggested that you have to watch your diet; you can't see the abs because there's still fat over them.

What's the name of that book? I'd definitely be interested. I've been eating healthy, running, and doing situps and crunches, but still haven't really seen any progress. I'd definitely be interested in what this book has to say.

I found it at chapters, but I forgot what it was called. It should be under a little health section somewhere. But personally, I think you need to do more than just floor exercises. If you want results, go to a gym or buy weight training equipment.

I live in a town that doesn't have a gym, seriously. How unebelievable is THAT? I take aerobics classes though, and I'm a dancer, as well. I've got a pretty flat stomach, I just don't have a ton of definition. My doctor was telling me that some people just don't have "that body type," but I think it's possible to achieve eventually.

I got a six pack by just doing ab work every night (mostly different types of crunches) on the floor of my room when I was in middle school. I don't think equipment in necissary, but it can definitely be a great too. A six pack is mainly just for show anyway. Like BigRob said, the rectus abdominus is pretty superficial. The transverse abdominals are what it's all about ;)

I have to agree with what most of these people had to say:

1.) The shape and formation of your abs are all genetics or your body type. You'll see that some people having 8 and others have 6.
2.) Get lots of rest. Change is around the corner if you sleep alot. Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep a day. Trust me, sleep really does work and you feel much better and more energized the next day.
3.) Exercise. Cross country is awesome cardio. Don't skip cardio. Cardio is exercise for your heart. Your heart's a muscle and shouldn't be overlooked like all weightlifters with legs.

Now some advice of my own. A healthy core and good-lookin abs only come through 2 ways: the kitchen and the gym. These 2 go hand-in-hand to a six/eight-pack. Make it a habit of counting and making your calories, getting enough protein, carbs and lessen the fat. But don't exclude fat right away. There's the good fats and the bad fats. The good fats are: Omega-3, Omega-6 fatty acids. The bad fats would be the transsaturated and saturated fats. Exclude those immediately. Avoid sugar, although it wouldn't hurt to have one of sugar's benefits--the boost--before a workout (it's gonna be burned up anyways right?). Other than that, you should be good. Just watch what you eat, make up some goals, aim for those goals, take short, proactive strides and in no time, you'll be there. You can do it. :)

But don't consume too much sugar. If you do, your body will react by overproducing insulin, then get rid of the sugar that's normally in your blood levels, and then with very little sugar available in your blood for energy, you'll start to feel tired and sleepy. So avoid the donuts and other high-sugar content foods.

Agreed. When I stated having a little sugar boost before any workout, I meant something like I dunno, half a chocolate bar or something similar.

I just included that, just in case someone misread it, and got carried away with needing energy. Milk chocolate actually has a little less calories than donuts do, but you want to avoid the brand name milk chocolates like Mars bar and Kit Kat. They're even worse than Krispy Kreme donuts. The real chocolates are better.

Yes, good post, we need a balanced strength program, great healthy eating plan and CARDIO! Then we will have a strong core. I only have a 2 pack, and I have a strong core, do lots of cardio and strength and yoga too, and yet no 6 pack  Such is the reality of a normal and healthy female body that is 41! I am in a great BMI, and my BF% is healthy.
God Bless,J

Abs can also depend on skin type, body build, and many factors. Dont be too bumed out if it's harder to build seeable muscle than other people. I have counsins who are small boned, I'm more medium frame. They look ripped, but I'd beat them in an arm wrestling match any day.

African Americans have thinner skin than Anglo Americans, so muscles tends to be more defined in them. Many of these people get kuddos of kredit for working out and building those muslces.

I'm just saying, just because you don't have a six pack doesnt mean you're not working out to the best of your potential. You'll get there. Follow the suggestions given here and you'll be on your way. Actually, I need to practice some of these myself. Now that the colder weather is upon us, I tend to work out less outdoors.

Keep in min winter weight and dont let that slow you down. Eat the right stuff, rest, run, and it wont be long.

Blessings.

As for the comment on African Americans having thinner skin, I can imagine people going, "Yes, b-but what about Swartzenegger?"

Schwarzenegger does all his tme in the weight room. If you spend 4 hours a day there, no doubt, no matter your body type, color, build, youll get what you're working for. I'm more a runner and biker. I dont spend a lot of time in the weight room, so my muscle mass is a bit less and a different look than that of the Mr. Universe types.

Blessings
