  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My employer is designating me as the Mac go-to guy (even though I've never really used one).

I got the iPhone 4s and supposedly, SIRI the virtual personal assistant is supposed to run on this thing without having to jailbreak it. I don't see Siri in the App Store, and it just says its a Beta on Apple's site. But I see lots of people have it on youtube. I tried searching for how I can get it but all I find are the tutorials on how to port it to older iOS devices once you already have it.

Is it not supposed to be available to the public yet? Where do I get it?

Yeah Siri runs exclusively and natively on the 4S, but it wasn't designed to be apart of iOS 5 on older model iDevices (I think processing power was an issue, the iPhone 4 has an A4 chip and the 4S has an A5). Rumor has it that Apple is working out how to get Siri on older iPhones and iPads, but at this point it's just the 4S. I think it's just a matter of holding the home button down and the microphone icon appears to connect with Siri.

Haven't had a chance to use it myself yet though...

I have Siri. Love it! It does so much so well. Fastest way to send emails, texts, notes, etc

Can you do me a favor?
Just for fun, let me know what response it gives you when you ask it "Who is your creator?"

I tried it a few of times. It gave me four responses. "I'm not sure I have one". "I guess I don't have one". " I don't know." "Do I have one of those? I guess I'll have to check.".

If you ask it "do you believe in God?" it's reply was that it "found 4 churches not far from me".

It's beginning to sound like the HAL 9000 series...

When I asked Siri if it was a HAL 9000, I got these answers: "No comment" "We were talking about you, not me" "I can't answer that" it has several funny answers to 'open the pod bay doors' and 'beam me up'.

Ask Siri "What is the velocity of an unladen swallow?" for me.

Never mind. Apparently the model MD146LL is not the 4S, which comes with Siri installed.

I'll have to check the paperwork because I was told it was the 4S.

thats odd.
anyway you work it by holding down the home button, then the box pops up and you can talk to it :3 my brother has an iPhone 4s, SIRI is really fun to talk to lol

Siri has been ported to the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. It's nothing to do with processing power and everything to do with Apple artificially limiting their technology to get people to upgrade like they always do.

Ha, I didn't know that, cool. What does one have to do to get it working on an iPhone 4? Or is that in the early development stages?

I don't think it's official. You have to jailbreak the iPhone 4 to get it to run and it's missing some of the graphical interface (or so I've heard). I'm not going to jailbreak a corporate phone.

awitch is correct. You have to Jailbreak the phone. That part didn't really take hackers long to do. The interface to Siri was running on iPhone 4s and iPads within maybe 2 weeks or less. What took longer was getting around Apple's arbitrary server-side block. There are files that have to be copied over from an iPhone 4S to the jailbroken device to get Siri working properly. Those files fool Apple's servers into thinking you're running a 4S for Siri even though you're not.

What are you guys using for a JB? I used jailbreakme.com last time but since I upgraded to iOS 5 I haven't bothered trying. Do you guys use greenp0ison?
