Jesus wants us to be happy and good.

Sins have nasty consequences that make us unhappy and affect us in ways we don't even realize...

Jesus told us HOW to be happy and good, so we can avoid those nasty consequences.

This is a good question that usually sticks with you starting out in this walk saved or not.

This verse is a summary of what i'm going to say essentially

Revelation 2:16

“Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.”

The rest is revelations 2:16 sort of broken down in a way

1. Repentance=to have a change of heart/seek forgiveness

To be straight up what i'm saying is one reason not to continue to sin is becuase that's a part of repentance and God forgiving alone is only half of it.

2. You only get so long JESUS comes quickly

• The forbearance of God is essentially when God holds back from issuing a certain punishment but eventually he will let loose if you keep committing that sin.

3. Another reason to sinning despite the fact that God can forgive is becuase being saved alone isn't enough... you have to reach new levels and grow or else you'll just regress.

• I preached one time about this cycle the devil uses called the loop, you go to the altar with a misconception on repentance assuming you're just seeking forgiveness and then you return to the same sin, and then you repeat this process next week and you never get anywhere. Eventually you get wary of this and sin wins... you regress from there.
• That's why it's important to repent correctly, be baptized, get holy ghost, and move continue to move up even after being saved.

If you don't make progress you'll just end up sinking unto you backslide or end up with a reprobate mind...the bible says don't be ignorant of the devils devices...if you still falling for that woman or you still on the same spiritual level you were in a year ago you will start to regress. You can't stay in 1 john 2:1 (cry to God for forgiveness 24/7 for sins) for life ... eventually you need to walk in spirit and in truth and moving onto 1 john 3:9 status.

The point is in the core foundation upon which the new covenant stands:

This is the covenant I will make with them after that time says the Lord
I will write my laws in their minds
And place them on their hearts
Then he adds
Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more
Heb10:16&17

What happens when you deliberately go against what is in your heart?
Your conscience is seered. you have great unhappiness, and no peace.
Think of anyone you truly love in your heart. When you offend them, you feel remorse don't you. Offending them doesn't bring you happiness. You have no peace until you go them and ask their forgiveness for how you acted.
When the Christian goes against the law in their heart, they have no rest, no peace, and no happiness until they come before their Father in heaven and seek his forgiveness for how they acted.
No born again Christian can happily sin as much as they want in the knowledge Jesus died for their sins.
God had it all figured out. No licence to sin under the new covenant

Ah, if you love someone you want to make them happy, don't you?

The answer to the ops question is in the fact the law God desires you to follow is written on your mind and placed on your heart at the point of conversion.
And that is the only answer for those who have truly been born again

The law on stone( TC) got transferred onto tablets of human hearts( 2cor3:3)
It is not an external law but an internal law for the believer.
The point if it being there is to reveal your sin/ make you conscious of sin, and bring you in your heart to want to live as God desires you to live.
But obedience to that law is byfaith working through love.
Obedience to the law cannot save or justify you, only Jesus can, for he died for your sins/ transgression of the law

Say nothing, if you live the way God wants you to live, you love, as it says in 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 8
Love covers many sins.
And what makes you think your sins are less than theirs.
everyone sins, and one sin is the same as every sin.

God doesn't command us as He does for His sake but for ours. God's perfect. He isn't affected in the slightest by our obedience or disobedience. We, though, are affected often very powerfully by the choices we make to obey or disobey our Maker. Obedience brings the blessings of safety, and unhindered fellowship with God, and usefulness to Him. Our sin brings only death (Ro. 6:23). Death of our fellowship with God, of human relationships, of peace and joy, of health, and worse.

Our forgiveness did not come cheap. Christ paid for every sin we commit. And he paid for them very dearly. Your sin (and mine) tore his flesh, and cost his blood, and took his life. Why then would we sin?

Hebrews 10:26-29
26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.
28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

I’ve always found thisl question a bit puzzling. OK, so sometimes we’re shortsighted and have to be reminded to eat our vegetables. But the basic concept here seems to be that we have to be coerced into living as Christians by threats of hell. That seems really odd. Both Paul and Jesus seem to teach that Christians are motivated by the Holly Spirit. I would think that would be the motivation, and that someone who had to be coerced to live like a Christian probably isn’t one in the first place.


I do from time to time have doubts about the faith. But if I contemplate loss of faith it’s not, “Oh, wonderful. Then I could do what I want,” but “boy, my life would have a big hole in it. I have no idea what life would mean.”

I think every sin committed is different, some are out of bad habits which one is trying to stamp out, or deliberate sins out if frustration etc.
The main thing is why add to the evil in this world by sinning against another brother/sister? There are plenty if people who don't want to know God and do that anyway.

I have sinned against a sister and it does not feel good. I felt regret. A natural feeling to tell us we have done wrong. God telling us to make it right. I have repented and made amends (scary) but yeah, God doesn't want us to live with those feelings inside, he wants us to be content xx

Hell gets em' in the door, and once in, while we are willing the Holy Spirit guides us, and if we were to become undecided/unwilling, the threat of Hell can bring us to our senses. And remember the coercion was Gods idea.

The point is that God HATES sin and does not want you to sin.

If you think along the lines of "I am born again and saved. i can carry on sinning" then i would say you are born again in name only.

a Christian would not WANT to carry on sinning.

I think everyone sins, whether we want to or not. The people who have faith in Christ are going to heaven regardless of their sins. The reason why we want to do our best and glorify God is because we are rewarded in heaven based on what we do on Earth. According to 1 Corinthian 3:12-18, our rewards in heaven are based on how we perform on Earth. I am not sure I believe every word of the Bible passage, but it said the Lord will test our works by fire. For those who pass the test, they are rewarded in heaven according to their work on Earth. The disciple James said that Faith without works is dead is meaningless, James 2:12:26.
When one considers how short our time is on Earth compared to eternity in heaven, we don't have much time to do good. Whatever time a person has on Earth should be spent helping others and glorifying God.

But thats not why we should do good works. We should not do good works in order to earn anything.

That appears the wrong motive.

I believe catholicism teachs that we are saved by works.

The Bible disagrees with that.

We are called to do good works BECAUSE we are saved not in order to BECOME saved.

ie: A sheep ( popular here in NZ ) goes "baa, baa" not in order to BECOME a sheep, but BECAUSE it is a sheep.

We should not sin simply because God does not want us to.

There is a difference between WALKING in sin and stumbling into sin.

Jesus makes the stumble into sin forgiven. Intentional sin, blatantly going from being forgiven and returning to sin thats a bit more of an issue of the heart.

For example, if someone stomps on your foot then says "sorry" how TRULY sorry are they if they did it intentionally without any true remorse?

There is a difference between forgiveness and what most believe in as "hyper grace" where you say a single prayer and can run around living like the devil and "its okay"

Obedience is a by product of the Spirit in someone. They are NOT saved by obedience.... obedience is just a result of the Spirit being in a person. They will still stumble, the difference is, when they ask forgiveness, because they have relationship with Christ.... their "Im sorry" is genuine.

Jesus said "many will come to me saying Lord Lord, did we not do many great things in your name" and Jesus said He will tell them "Depart from me I never knew you."

People can rest on hyper grace if they want to and continue to live as the world and NOT take up their cross and follow Jesus..... but I would rather follow the direct words of Christ than a man saying "Oh no, its okay trust me nobody is perfect God knows, so don't try, just live as the world." even though Jesus said otherwise. Im a Christian..... not an "insert pastor/teacher/mentors name here*ian.

We all have a dirty and corrupt heart that needs to be dealt with and flesh nature we must put to death so we will serve Jesus and do the will of the Father...... rather than serve our flesh doing our own will. Its not easy, but that is why Jesus spoke the parable of the builder. If you follow Christ as "luke warm" He has already stated he will "spit you out" so what is anything if you can not complete the task (being in relationship to Jesus) you will end up in the same place as non believers.

Jesus said the path is narrow. He didn't say its wide and generic so everyone gets in.

IF Those that LITERALLY walked with Jesus in the physical AND were the first to follow Him in the Spirit...... if they met horrible ends and did NOT lead lives of comfort what makes people think that NOW God is all about our comfort?

God cares about our character and ridding us of a dirty heart, socially it doesn't make us "bad people" but Gods purpose is to clear out the mess the world has made in our hearts (all of our hearts) making us in the likeness of His son as a result. Not to worry about our comfort, our relationships to others..... etc. relationship to Jesus is first and let all else be counted as rubbish.

Its not easy, but that is why we must count the cost as the builder before we begin. If we only have what it takes to go only halfway..... we become a fool. We began building, and spent time, money and effort..... only to not finish it.

Obedience and "doing good works" has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with us. We obey and do good works NOT because WE are good, but it is simply a by product of one having the Spirit IN them doing good works THROUGH them. Nothing more.

I see where you are coming from.

How about this thought. God loves each one of us. It must be a tremendous amount of love because he allowed his son to die such a horrible death to wash away our sins. Not only did he let his son die for our sins, he must have been in tremendous pain as his love is infinite. For someone to love us so much, why we want to sin because the Lord forgives our sins. I would think we want to do our best to show our love for God.

This is completely true. But a lot more difficult. If you have compulsive thoughts that are just hard to fight, it is almost impossible to stop sinning. And the more and more you try to fight your compulsive thoughts, the more and more stronger they are.

Not making excuses for continuing sin, for sin still leads to death. I mean it does say in Scripture that if we continue in sin, there is no longer forgiveness.
