how could you learn that by accident???
Through bits and pieces of US history that I already knew. Check it out.
Coolage was president during the roaring 20's. Everyone liked him cause of the econimic boom.
So they elected Hoover next, he was Coolage's VP and they wanted more of the same. But Hoover got in and the great depression started up. So they quickly hated Hoover.
So they elected Franklin Roosevelt to get them out of the great depression. He started working on job creation but the real thing that got us out was World War 2. He hung around and was elected to 4 terms because of the depression and the war.
In the beginning of his 4th term he died and Truman was his VP became president and dropped the A-bomb on Japan. He was re-elected later on.
Then Eisenhower was the big general in the European front of WW2 and everyone loved him. "I like Ike" He was pres through most of the 50's and the beginning of the cold war.
Then Kennedy came along and he was a real likeable guy and he was cookie cutter made for TV which was comming around then. He barely beat Nixon.
Then he got shot in Dallas Texas in 1963. (I think in Nov. sometime) and his VP was Lyndon Johnson. He came in and got us all up into Vietnam. I think he may have won one term of his own but maybe not.
But Vietnam wasn't going so hot so they picked Nixon this time. Nixon drug his feet but eventually got us out of Vietnam but he was all corrupt and stuff so he resigned and just before he did he picked Gerald Ford to be his VP. (His previous VP (Spiro Agnew??) resigned before Nixon cause he was corrupt too)
Ford took over after Nixon resigned and all but he pardoned Nixon to just get the whole thing overwith and people where all mad about that so they didn't elect him when he tried to run for his own term. The only man to never be elected to President or Vice President but still hold the office of president.
So instead of Ford the people picked Jimmy Carter cause he seemed like a real honest guy. As honest and Jimmy was though he made some mistakes and the taking of hostages in Iran got people all mad so they picked Ronald Regan.
Regan was the cold war guru and everyone liked him. In fact when he ran for re-election his opponent (Walter Mondale) only won his home state in the electorial college.
From then on I was around so I know it from memory.
Bush Sr. was elected because he was Regan's VP. But the economy went bad under him even though he had some military and foriegn policy successes.
So Bill Clinton came out of no where and was elected president. The economy went up under him and even though he had plenty of scandals he served 2 complete terms.
But then in an upset Bush Jr. defeated Al Gore who everyone thought would win easiy. Problem was Al Gore was stiff and patronizing. But this is a disputed election as Al Gore won more popular votes but lost the electorial college after a highly disputed Bush Jr. victory in Florida.
And then Bush Jr. got us into the Iraq war in '03. People where not sure they wanted to change leaders in the midst of a war and John Kerry wasn't real electable anyways. . .
And that is where we are now. I didn't realize I could go that far back until I stopped one time and asked myself how far back I could go without consulting any references from the modern president. I used the above reasoning and it got me back to coolage. I couldn't go further then that w/o consulting a reference.
