  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think a liberal-conservative relationship CAN work, it just depends on the people. I know a lot of people who are actually very conservative, but they have absolutely no issues fellowshipping and maintaining relationships with people who are liberal and hold different beliefs. We all have our different beliefs, its just a matter of not taking opposing opinions personally, and not shoving our own beliefs down others throats because we're "right" and they are "wrong". This goes for both, very conservative types and very liberal types.

yup.. my ex was politically much more conservative than I am. we would discuss it and debate it quite abit, but it was never an issue in our relationship. if nothing else, it gave us more to talk about.

I just couldn't ever date someone who was militant about their political views or held them on the same level as Scripture, regardless of whether they were liberal or conservative.

I don't think they are necessarily pointless labels. Maybe to some here, but to others it is a key indicator of values and interests. Those things matter in a mate. I do agree that conservative and liberal people can make it work, but I think it's also certainly understandable to want to be with somone who shares the same worldview (for lack of a better word) as you do...which for some is indicated by those labels.

I think only ideologues bring it to that axiomatic level. I myself don't care about labels.. I take issues one at a time.

I think some are confusing politics with a general worldview. I'm not just talking about who someone votes for. There are issues that go beyond politics with those labels. I'm a recycling, public transportation taking, feminist*, who admires what some see as a crunchy life style. My very lifestyle could very easily come in conflict with that of a conservative. Maybe I've met the wrong type of conservatives, but we'd fight over things that have nothing to do with voting.

But I wasn't trying to derail this thread, just pointing out that the OP may have valid reasons for pointing out that he was a liberal and the impact that might have on finding someone here.

*just examples, I'm aware some conservatives may be pro-environment (and recycle and buy products with the environment in mind), support public transportation (though I haven't met any), and are feminists (again, haven't met any). There are other examples I could have used as well.

Being single sucks, but being in a relationship and having to try to relate to another person is worse, so I'll just go with the lesser of the two evils.

Well, my room-mates in a relationship, and so far everything seems to be just peachy for him.

He just got really lucky, then.
Twice. No, three times.

Fall semester he had a, friend, and a GF.
Then, when his friend went back to her country, and his GF to hers, he got a new GF just a few months later.

That and then like, more than half his friends are girls.

Me on the other hand. I've only had a few girls as friends in my life. Most the friends I make are all guys. So I guess I'm like a total opposite.

People say if I want a GF, I should talk to girls more, but like I hardly even know any. :p

I kinda want to steal a friend's gf. Her and I "click" really well together, and she already knows all the stupid things I do like drink tea and read before bed (routines!). And yes, I'd like to sleep with her.

But that's terrible, right? Totes (lol @ verbiage) against the commandments....so I plod on through women with no personalities, no looks, a combination of neither or little scraps of both which amount to nothing.

Tonight is kinda depressing.

^Nobody is perfect. If you honestly haven't had a thought like that come across your mind at least once in your life, you're lying.

Sound terrible, I know. But this is the internet, so I can be a bit more honest than in real life. Real life has sucked for quite some time, lol.

Duno if I was ever jealous of another friends GF. I say, duno, cus...she was like...the more I think about it, even though me and her were friends, she definitely wasn't for me.

If fact...even more depressing, I don't think I've met a girl yet that was for me. Which kinda makes me wonder if she's out there.

I seem to want a type of woman that doesn't exist. :\

It's the #1 fantasy in the world is to sleep with the spouse or partner of a best friend or sibling.....something like 70something percent of those polled by Maxim Magazine said that the thought had at one point come across their mind.

So mathematically, I could almost be certain. And I'm always honest. Always generally. ;)

The demographic somewhat speaks for itself.
Well, I doubt if they asked the Amish, who would respond? Do you think a Christian would admit that to someone else, instead of just keeping the shame that their life is in shambles and they'd like another one? Because these fantasies are never about the women, they're always about where the other person is and how happy they are, etc. That's what happens. And women are dumb and get talked into the sack far too easily for my tastes, take it from a man who's been cheated on multiple times by "Christian women".

The only other place that this sort of poll could be done is with Catholic Confessors, and they're under law unable to say things like that to anyone.
