  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay especially for us older singles and maybe moreso for those use to living completely alone...

Do you have "single" habits?

I like to think some of my habits would change if I were to marry.
I know even now when I have company I do things differently.

Sometimes I let my dishes stake up for a few days.
Other days I make sure everything is done before calling it a night.
I'd like to think I would do them more regularly if married.
I know I make a point to get caught up when I have company coming over even if it just family.

Since I am at home all the time I dress comfortably for myself and may not wash hair every day.
When I am expecting company (pastor dropped in unannounced other day) I spruce up.
I like to think I would make an effort to be more presentable with a spouse.
I know when a friend came to visit for a week this past summer I did shampoo daily and dress better than if I had been alone.

Too true. I tend to leave the light off, because I know where everything is - even eat in the dark. Leaving plates is another (three months and you can comb the green hair).

But getting down to more dangerous stuff (like one thinks will chnage when getting married,) I go where I want when I want - time is not a factor to me - and I don't have to consult anybody before doing anything.

Sometimes I will go for days not eating anything. I could cook up a storm if there were others in the house, but if you are on your own, cooking is a mega schlepp.

Too true. Too true.:sigh:

Funny thing was, in the last place that I lived, there were people who come and sit around myn kitchen table to eat the cuisine that I made:D . But it was sheer discipline to cook when no one was near. I cooked because I didn't want to go down the permanent-fast lane. ;)

dishes are a big problem for me. I eat out a lot and not necessarily the best choices. I take off and do what I want when I want. I agree to work crazy hours sometimes which doesn't help in the quest to not neglect everything else.

I've been trying to work a little on these things....baby steps I guess so hopefully I'll be better prepared if/when a spouse may enter the picture.

My dirty clothes can pile up (and up and up). Sometimes they might make it in a basket of some sort.

Dishes will pile up in the sink (until I empty the dishwasher by using the last dishes in it).

I don't shower on my days off (Monday & Tuesday). Usually don't see anyone either so it doesn't really bother anyone else.

My van can get pretty trashed in the passenger seat.

That's enough for now.

I am use to driving alone so my passenger side does need a little cleaning up when I have a rider.

I am thinking not as much as yours, Randy. ;)

I might have a tissue box on the seat and maybe some on the floor.
I can quickly pick it up pretty quickly while a person is opening the door to get in, usually.

I have a kid.....so I have to keep things neat and clean around the house (and I think I'm a little OCD :p )

But, when I first got divorced it was hard to sleep in the whole bed, I still slept to one side....I also had my daughter sleep with me, so I wasn't so lonely (she's 7). But, 3 years later.....I take up the WHOLE bed, when my dd goes to visit with her dad, I can do anything I want, sleep when I want.

So, I think I'm comfortable now and will I give it up? Hmmmnnnn.....

Heck yeah I'd change some habits.

No more washing dishes
No more doing laundry
No more cooking
No more cleaning the bathroom
No more rubbing my own feet
No more getting up to get my own glass of water
No more getting up when I forget to get the remote when I sit down
No more driving myself anywhere
No more ironing
No more grocery shopping
No more cutting the grass
No more raking leaves
No more feeding myself
No more bathing myself
No more ceiling fans, I want to get that big leaf fan thing going on!

Married life will be GREAT!! ^_^:p^_^

Cleaning my van can be a major project!

Dude that was really :D

I know that I will have to change this one habit of mine and that is when I get home from work or where ever I instantly take off my clothes and jewelry and put on some old ratty looking long shirt or night gown. Trust me it is not something I would want anyone to see me in, but it is comfortable :p

I use the same plate and fork and bowl and spoon over and over, washing them each time, so they never pile up but also never get put away.

I risk food poisoning by not throwing out expired things.

I keep the house at 55 degrees in the winter.

I'm sure there are more...

Gosh, I relate to so many of the things said so far.

I'd like to add sleeping with the TV on all night.

You are not suppose to do that?
How about the radio or both? ;)

I am doing better at shutting off the tv since I no longer have one in my bedroom.
