Do you mean my post right here?

I'm talking in general terms about concerns which have been raised in this thread. Report threads don't come into it. I don't discuss report threads.

Thanks for clarifying that. I jumped to a conclusion based on previous experiences where moderators have used inuendo from report threads in order to bait posters for staff harrassment if they try to defend themselves publically.

For those who don't like the "grandma rule", apparently it's supposed to be like that, as David's query thread proved:

Lee doesn't want us to have strict rules. The reason we have such open rules is so we can catch the members when they skirt a rule. Under the old system we so often had to let things pass because the post would skirt the rules. Now as is if a member just breaks the spirit of the rule it is a rule violation. The way the rule currently reads allows for the moderators more control in the forums when it comes to rule violations.

So now you know.

can't argue with some of that. And I can't reshape the past. I can promise that part of my job description is to provide consistency and I will try my best. I can promise that I have always tried to be upfront and direct and not secret or "seekrit"...and I plan on being me. Good or ill for what it's worth.

And our mods try very hard to do a great job and they do. I think this new system will work in the long run to be consistent. If I did not think that I would not say it. I really think it will be positive.

David,

I really appreciate this honest discussion. You are a rare and precious gem.

No so rare...HOB as well. It's like a tag team on coverage in this thread. Just as I get off work, go home and get ready for bed I see HOB popping on. All the mods are really trying to get this set off on the right foot.

You guys are great too, and I know sometimes differences in viewpoint and such can make the "spirit of the rule" hard to pinpoint. So that is what we are trying to do.

As far as the grandmother rule. I am gathering stuff from reports on the kind of thing that people dispute to illustrate the kind of problems people see with the enforcement of the rule.

My hope is that we can clarify the spirit and intent of the rule. If we can what may happen is we will post a guideline from what we come up with. It will not be an official addendum to the rule per se...but it will be something that those in charge feel is in line with the spirit and valid as a guideline to give others. And we will post that and use it as a guide so people know what is a violation and what is not..in order to ensure consistency.

I just wrote something that was the strangest lines I have written:

I think one of the problems is that given the broad nature of grandmothers people see the spirit of the rule differently in an honest disagreement. More of a...chiche phrase with no real correspondence than a workable guideline in their eyes.

I had to pause at: given the broad nature of grandmothers.

I can vouch for the hard work David is putting into the thread in the staff area. Top work tiger!

Thanks. Say you'll miss me when I get promoted ;)

I think you're working hard than me though... all the question-askers are awake and asking when you're around!

Hmmmmm. Unless it involves the promotion of Medjugorje as authentic, the Church teaching seems to fly out the window.

Amazing. Simply amazing. We get complaints from all sides on all things. Modding too fast, modding too slow. I'll address this here and than people can PM me with any questions. Staff has been looking at all private revelations. But you know...we don't and can't make policy. We put a temporary thing in place. We talked about it came up with ideas and sent them to policy. At the moment they are, I think, about to go to the Admin/Superadmin area. We are trying to make sure that any decision made conforms to CF rules and what we are allowed to do.

And in specific reference to Medjugorje, those messages have been allowed in OBOB since I got here. That is nothing new. OBOB has for years allowed them, it just has not been an issue. Due to the level of debate recently we put a peacekeeping compromise into place to make sure members could both debate and prayerfully consider them. Any message is allowed to be reported if anyone feels it goes against Catholic teaching.

So in short. We looked at it. Made our arguments with each other, drafted something and referred it above to see what the limits of our decision making authority in the matter is. Basically finding out what would be setting policy and what would not. Since they have been allowed in the past by about 4 different groups of OBOB mods over the years it is not as clear cut as some think.

And I do resent people thinking that any decision on private revelations is a reflection of how staff feels about Medjugorje. I have said numerous times I personally only advise adherence to messages that have direct approval. Heaven knows there are enough of them that people don't read. But you know...I am not here to enforce what I think. I am here to make sure things are in concert with the rules of CF and OBOB and all members can exercise the rights that they have as members, within the rules.

Currently we are seeing how all that works together in this circumstance.

Holy sneakers!
All I can say is, "Thank you Mods"!

I don't know how you all can deal with this kinda stuff day in, day out..... I don't have the patience........I'd end up wanting to kick people in their privates.^_^

There are things I don't agree with, but gotta deal with it or leave, simple as that, so I've been told......I've also been told to go to the suggestions forum, etc........

This baby ain't erwin's anymore..........I don't think we will see the swaying tides everytime someone complains and stomps their foot.........As many of you told us back then..........if you don't like it leave, toughen up, quite whining........many did leave, many of us came back too;)

While I don't question your personal opinion on private revelation.....I do think over all there is a bais toward a Pro Medjugorje stance on OBOB. Why else would a thread promoting Medjugorje be reopened...and no debate allowed, and yet a thread presenting evidence against Medjugorje is closed because of one post, and not reopened?

I didin't know that.....See that's why I avoid those threads to begin with......they aren't Church approved.........this whole private revelation thing gets sticky and kinda creeps me out.
