Okay, so I'm not sure if this is the proper spot but, I have a 2 part question.

1. What is a sin? (Not...actually listing 'sins' but what qualifies as a sin? For example: Jealousy\Envy. If I say "UGH I want that car she has!" Is that a sin? Etc. I hope that makes sense)

2. Do you think there is a day that goes by where people DO NOT sin? 24 full hours of NO sin what so ever?

Any biblical references will help out. Thanks!

It's impossible for a person to stop sinning. We all sin even the best christians like Paul. a sin is something selfish and un holy..You dont have to give up sin in order to be saved.

"And they went out, and preached that men should repent." —Mark 6:12

The answer is No! You do NOT have to stop sinning to be saved. No one can stop sinning (Romans 3:23)! No one can live above sin—no one (Isaiah 64:6). Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners. You do NOT have to give up anything to be saved except your UNBELIEF.
However, you DO need to realize your sinful condition and "confess" (or admit) to God that you are a sinner, deserving of hell. This is Biblical repentance, i.e., "a change of mind."
To be saved, a sinner simply needs to become "guilty" before God (Romans 3:19). Repentance is NOT forsaking one's actual sins, for that would be self-righteousness? Repentance is acknowledging that I am guilty of violating God's holy Law, and that I deserve to be punished in Hellfire for my own sins. Thus, realizing one's need for a Saviour. This is exactly what Galatians 3:24 teaches, "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith."
A person who is convicted about their sin won't have the joyous attitude that they can continue living in sin and still go to Heaven. I would greatly doubt the salvation of anyone who rejoices that they can continue living in sin. This is one of the favorite arguments of Lordship Salvationists. The truth is that God holds believers accountable for their words and actions (Romans 14:12; 1st Peter 4:17; 2nd Corinthians 5:10).
Repentance is a turn of mind. When you turn to Christ for forgiveness, you have just turned your back on sin.

What is Biblical Repentance?
Repentance is a turn-around of mind! Whereas we were heading towards hell-fire and destruction, we realized our sinful condition and turned to the loving Saviour Who shed His precious blood for our many sins (1st Peter 1:18,19). Repentance is a change of heart. Before we were saved, sin was magnified in our life while Jesus was diminished. Now that we've been born-again, Christ is magnified and sin is diminished. As we grow in the Lord, this trend should continue to where Jesus becomes everything to us, and sin nothing.

Notice from the picture above that for a person to turn to Christ in Heaven is to turn one's back on sin and hell. Does a believer have to repent to be saved? Absolutely! But it's a repentance of the heart (a turn-around of our heart) concerning Jesus Christ and our sins. Whereas before we did not believe on Christ, now we do! Whereas before we lived in sin with no conviction, now we are convicted for our sins. It is uncommon that new believers simply clean up their act right away; it takes time for the Holy Spirit to work in one's heart. It's a lifetime process of growing. We grow with the milk of God's Word (1st Peter 2:2).
We are all woeful sinners (Romans 3:10,23). To be saved, a person MUST realize their sinful condition. It is NOT enough simply to commit your life to God or decide to turn over a new leaf. This is self-righteousness and a false gospel. To be saved, you must confess to God (not to men) that you are a wicked sinner in need of forgiveness, and then believe on Jesus Christ to forgive you (Acts 10:43).

What a Wonderful Saviour!
Do you need to give up your sins to be saved? No; but you must acknowledge them for what they are, wicked sins. You see friend, most people refuse to acknowledged their sinful condition. I've heard a young woman say that since Adam and Eve were naked in Eden that pornography must be acceptable with God. She is woefully wrong. Some people justify immoral sex on the basis that God made the body beautiful. This is wrong thinking. Others seek to justify smoking cigarettes on the basis that it grows from God's earth, so it must be acceptable. This is of course absurd. Poison Ivy also grows naturally, should we rub it all over our bodies? Many people attempt to rationalize their sins; but God's Law never changes. Pornography is of the Devil. Substance abuse is sinful. Adultery is sinful. The Bible (Law of God) condemns our sins and we have no excuses.

"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." —Romans 3:20

Do you have to give up your sins to be saved? No, just your unbelief. I get upset when people teach "Lordship salvation." What is that? Lordship salvation is the false doctrine that you must make Christ the "Lord" of your life to be saved, that you must repent and depart from sin. That is impossible! There is no such thing as a believer who does not commit sin. We are all woeful sinners. If I have to give up a certain amount of sin to be saved, then how much do I have to give up? Just because a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour does not mean they are above sin. As a matter of fact, getting saved is just the start of a lifelong process. Try as hard as you may, you are going to walk in the flesh at times and sin. I have often said, "Christians at best are people, and people at best are sinners." We can walk in the Spirit at any given time; but the fact is that we're not always going to do so because we are sinners.

A License to Sin?
No one has God's Permission to sin. If you want to be Biblical, a believer does in fact have a license to sin. No sin that a believer commits can ever jeopardize one's Eternal Security. To teach otherwise is to negate the gift of God and teach a false gospel of self-righteousness. Salvation is the gift of God, based upon Christ's imputed righteousness to our account; and not any good of our own. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is receiving; not giving.
Believers who choose to live in sin will be "chastised" by God (Hebrews 12:8). For anyone to be able to live in sin without conviction from God's Holy Spirit means they are not saved, i.e., a "bastard" as Hebrews 12:8 states... "But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." Certainly, many believers do choose to live in sin; but they are miserable and know that God does not approve. Every believer in Jesus Christ will give account to God for the good and bad done on earth (Romans 14:12; 2nd Corinthians 5:10).
Although the genuine believer does in fact has a "license to sin" if they so choose; they certainly do NOT have God's permission to sin and will be judged at The Judgment Seat of Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:10)accordingly. Many believers will receive no rewards at this judgment and will be ashamed and overwhelmed with tears (1st Corinthians 3:15; 5:5).
Nevertheless, say what you will, no believer will ever stand trial at The Great White Throne of Judgment for sins committed in this lifetime (Revelation 20:11-15). This is "why" there will be 2 separate and distinct judgments: one for the SAVED, and one for the UNSAVED.

This didn't really answer my questions...

So where in the Bible does it say that EVERYONE SINS EVERY day? Is it possible to go 24 hours without sinning?

Also, what constitutes as a sin? Is the thought for 30 seconds a sin, or is letting it consume your day a sin? Is both?

Sin is defined in 1 John 3:4 sin is the breaking of the law/Torah. The law/Torah is the first five books of the bible. That means everything that is contained in those books is God's law.

Can we go a day without sinning? yes we can, however that does not last forever since its in our nature to sin. This is where living on a spiritual nature is important this way we do our best to follow the law (not sin) in so the Lords grace makes up for the rest making us perfect and righteous.

Any sin for any amount of time is sin.

(I know you know what sin is, but you raise some good points.)

On envy, Solomon who was given a full measure of the gift of wisdom by God said, 'all man's achievements are born by the envy of his neighbor'.

So envy goes far deeper then just coveting someone's car.

People see those who get acclaim for men in the arts, the sciences, anywhere: they envy that. They see those that are wealthy and they envy their lives. They see those other then Jesus Christ whom they admire, and they envy them and seek to model themselves after them.

But as Christians we should only look to God through Jesus Christ, not be adulterous in heart, and seek to model ourselves after Jesus.

Now, it is true, you are not Jesus but who you are, but I am speaking here metaphorically. As Christians you are called to take up your cross and have great faith and love, with all wisdom, and consider God your father.

'Call no man on earth your father', as Jesus said.

Now, Jesus pointed out often about how the word "father" is symbolic: for instance, He pointed out how the bad Jews saw the ones who killed the Prophets as their fathers. Jesus was taught by God not to think this way, so understood those Jews were not following God but looking to tradition and considering tradition as their father.

We should not be like that: for we are born of Heaven and strive to be as true sons and daughters of the Living God.

That is about sin and staying away from it: sin is 'missing the mark' and we know Jesus was without sin.

1. What is a sin?

Sin, is anything not in the expressed will of God.

Evil, is malicious intent to commit sin.

Not all sin is evil, but all evil is sin.

Do you think there is a day that goes by where people DO NOT sin? 24 full hours of NO sin what so ever?

No, if we are conscience, we are in and out of sin all of the time..

Just the mere exercise of "Free will" is to commit sin.. If we choose what is in God will then we are in fact doing God's will and not our own. Our will is anything not in the will of God.

In Romans 3:23 we read 'All have sinned and come short of God's glory". That is a Hebrew poetic form (parallelism) where the second part is another way of stating the first part. So, sin is being less perfect that God. We all fit into that 24/7. BUT, Jesus stepped in and gave us the gift of his righteous life, and so we can live out of that ina confidentr elationship with God. That's the really good news!

Sin is disobedience before God, and we must be punished for it (just like any loving parent would punish their children for disobeying them)

Thankfully Jesus died in each of our places:

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Now all we need to do is recognise that he has done this for us. We must change our ways so that we try to avoid sinning. For example, a liar will want to tell the truth, a thief will want to become honest. We will have a conscious if we sin as the Holy Spirit living in us will be grieved. Everyone sins, even Christians, they are after all human and still get tempted (perhaps more so than someone who is not saved) to do things they ought not to do.

To become saved you must believe in Jesus and what he has done for you and change your mind set so that you try to always do good.

Here are the 10 commandments – it is a sin if you do not keep them.

Do not worship any other gods.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

Here is another example of when someone sins:

James 4:17
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Therefore if you do something you know is a sin or you know you ought not to do, it is a sin to you.

EDIT: Another sin which is greater than all sins is:

Mark 3:29
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.

[bible]All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.[/bible] (Romans 3:23)

Sinning everyday, yes we do. Mainly by thought and hopefully less by deed.

Lets be real here, we all have mean or lustful thoughts just about everyday. Men and women alike do this. We think other thoughts as well that are sinful.

God understands our nature, and forgives us. He sent Jesus didn't He. Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit.

You don't need to become obsessed over this sinful nature we humans have. Just ask for forgiveness and really mean it.

[bible]Go and sin no more.[/bible] (John 8:1-11)

A 30 second thought can be sin, if it's a sinful thought. If the thought is consuming your day, well, this would be dysfunctional and will get in the way of your relationship with God. It's called rumination. Rumination is a sin.

To keep yourself a sinless as possible follow the Ten Commandments, and Pray for the fruit of Holy Spirit.

Your still gonna sin though.

I think it's a sin when it is'nt love.
God is Love and Jesus said that all his commandments are based on Love, The Lord your God with all our heart, soul, minds, body,
and Love your neighbour as yourself.

Sins are acts oppostite of love,
If we have other gods, we do not respect God, he wants a relationship with us, he loves us.He can be jealous, because he loves us.

we work to build charactor , work 6 days and to love our families and community, we rest also to take care of ourselves , so we have strength and health, time to spend with our families, time to pray
and so on.

So Say if I were jealous,
sad because I didnt have something,
I think its ok to a certain extent, because its how we notice what we need and I think God wants us to be happy more than we know, but things that we think make us happy, may not really be what we need, maybe God knows what is really best for us, so sometimes he will answer our prayers and sometimes he wants something different for us and things are not so much important ,he wants us to value more than just things, he wants us to value I believe, "relationships" relationship with him.

Sin starts in the heart.Real sin does thats what I think we should wach out for.

Accidents, I believe like spilled milk, is not sin, but reality and tests relationships around us and tests us , tests our love, accidents are tests, maybe?I think so.
Spilled milk is no ones fault, really whats more important, the spilled milk? The beautiful carpet? Or the person who is sorry it was an accident.

If we spill unpurpose then it becomes sin.Not caring about the persons rug, home.

1. What is a sin? (Not...actually listing 'sins' but what qualifies as a sin?
Sin is falling short of the glort (nature) of God (Romans 3:23)
The only way to stop sinning is to receive and live by the Spirit (of glory)
"Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Gal.5:16)

2. Do you think there is a day that goes by where people DO NOT sin? 24 full hours of NO sin what so ever?

Even true christians sin as they are still chjildren learning to walk with God better.

1John 1:8: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Even if I did go 24 hours without even thinking a wrong thought that wouldn't make me righteous.

What keeps me in fellowship witrh God is that I desire him to lead me above anything else. He promises not just to forgive but also to cause me to overcome my failings.

1John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Dear lulou. God is LOVE, and everything we say or do, which is not motivated by love in some way or another, is SIN. Jesus gave us 2 Commandments, 1) love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. ( They contain all 10 Commandments, which God gave us.) To love God is easy enough, when we remember that God made us, He made us in His image, capable of loving and to know the difference between LOVE, and NO LOVE. 2) Love our neighbour, i.e. all others, friend or foe, as we love ourselves. That is not easy, but if we start by treating all we know, or meet, treat them as we would like to be treated, with kindness, courtesy, a friendly smile, and a helping hand when needed. Once we start doing that, we will find that Jesus gives us His Love, Joy and Peace, to share with others. In time this will become our second nature, lulou, and people will notice and feel better for it. All beginnings are hard, or strange, but I promise you, in a short while you will find that loving/greeting/caring, will have overcome any Sin-Questions. A life without sharing love and its blessings, is an empty life. God is Love, lulou, and to have no love is separation from our Heavenly Father, who is LOVE. Jesus died that we might live, He reconciled us to God, and He is waiting to help us to repent, to learn to love again. He is the Way back to our original home with God. I say this humbly and with love. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
