  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I read an article about how the director made this movie in one green room.
All the acting was done with a green screen. No sets, and some of the actors never even met, even though they fought each other in the movie.
None of the actors spent more than 10 days filming this movie.

A second one is being drawn up.

I had mixed feelings concerning the film -- I felt that it was entertaining, and it had that pleasant sense of being raw about it. However, I felt that overall the storyline sometimes ended too abruptly in places, and in other places things just did not come together the way that I wanted it to.

Hopefully a second film will clarify what was going on in the first film.

It won't. The film is almost identical to the comics, they're unlikely to be expanded upon for a movie (Frank Miller doesn't seem to like this idea) and the possible sequel will follow other Sin City stories.

That's pretty much how Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was filmed as well.

I saw it yesterday and I came out of it disappointed. Visually it was very stunning obviously. But it seemed too incoherent and jumped from story to story, action to action, to abruptly for me to like it. It didn't make total sense to me either. Now I loved Kill Bill 1 & 2, which is the closest other movie that I've seen, and that was more tightly knit than Sin City was.

I thought sin city was great. I've heard a lot of people complain about the incoherent plotlines, but looking back on it I pretty much understood it all.

I get how it fits together, but there's nothing special really about how it all fits together IMO. Pulp Fiction is all out of order, with many stories going on, shown at different times. But in the end it makes sense and it's done much better I think. That being said, there are other things in Sin City that I'm not okay with, ie nudity. And frankly none of us should be "okay" with it either.

The stories in Sin City weren't all arranged to fit together, however. Pulp Fiction was ment to. Sin City was just 3 stories. They were shown that they fit together at some points just to make it clear that they're all basically helping each other in some way.

As for the nudity issue, well...that's your opinon Or rather, the bible's?

Yeah Sin City was just 3 stories. The link is the world. Their 3 stories that take place in the same world and utilize the same visual style. It's certainly not as deep as Pulp Fiction. I certainly don't see why the comparison is necessary though. It's easier to compare to the French New Wave films where three different directors came and directed a segment of a full length film. Except that these were all done by the same director.

I just read on another forum an explanation for the 3 stories all meshed together in the one movie and now it makes sense to me. I haven't read the comics and so I didn't know the movie was taken from books 1, 3, and 4 of Frank Miller's comics.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Christians do follow the Bible right?

Just wondering if you'd feel the same if you didn't have the bible as a reference. But that's a discussion for another thread.
