CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Robot in Disguise
If you check message boards on the Matrix movies, www.matrixfans.net, you will find a lot of references to it. If I'm not mistaken, in the first movie, Neo delivers some illegal software to one of his friends (follow the white rabbit), and this software is stored in the book you refer to. I may be thinking of a different book that had the term simulacra in it.

The only book I know of with that title is Simulacra by PhillipK. Dick. Simulacra is The story involves a future America where the whole government is a fraud and the President is an android. Against this backdrop Dr. Superb, the sole remaining psychotherapist, is struggling to practice in a world full of the maladjusted.
Considering the definition:
Simulacrum (n.) A likeness; a semblance; a mock appearance; a sham; -- now usually in a derogatory sense. Something that replaces reality with its representation. The pattern that the viewer's mind imposes on a random pattern.
I would think the producers of the movie the Matrix were doing some foreshadowing.

Yeah, it's Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. It's a very strangely written book. It almost seems like he wrote each line as soon as he thought of it. It flows like a stream of consciousness. It's a good book.
