i just finished watching "Last Exile".. it's an awesome anime that can't be compared with Kenshin and Naruto. Comparing the three of them just don't do any justice to them.

the last few episodes of Last Exile live up to the expectation that is built up throughout the series, and not only does the music fits, the animation of the battleships and skies is excellent. What do you call those? 3Dish, 3G? uh, 3D in a way that still fits well with 2D, i forgot the name.

so who's seen it? if you haven't, go rent/buy it!

I've seen it . Really good series and it's very true that you can't really compare it to Kenshin or Naruto because the style is so different. Well worth my time .

ok, it IS a bit strange towards the end, and there're some unanswered questions i think... but who cares!

I loved Last Exile and am picking up the DVDs as they come out. I loved the animation, the music, and the story. GONZO Digimation put so much detail into the designs of everything in the series, you cant help but get into it.

Admittedly, there was a few things that confused me the first time through, but when I watched it again (showing it to a friend of mine), everything exccept for one thing made sense. Great show!

Hmm... that depends on what you mean. I could have missed something major since I watched pretty much the whole series in a couple of days. What did they leave unsettled? Don't remember all the details of the ending but it was a pretty good ending if you compare to the multitude of other anime series .

well.. Saint Mark. Who IS Alu? we know why she is so important, but why does she possess that ability? and are the guild members actually space aliens? i got that impression from it.

i notice that in Last Exile they blend the 3D (ok.. is it 3G or something? does somebody know?) and 2D (i.e characters) nicely without the 2D standing out so much in animes like Vandread. Maybe it has something to do with the shading of colours of the 2D characters..

It's the thing toward the end with Moran (the rifle guy, I don't know how to properly spell his name). I don't want to give it away for those who havn't seen it, but you know what I'm talking about, right?

As far as the animation goes, I agree. They mixed the 2D and 3D beautifully. I'm not sure what to call the '3D' animations (like the vanships), but it does look remarkably better than it does in some other series.

oh, yes, that surprises me a bit (that guy). At least Last Exile has a complete and you know what ending that leaves you feeling.. wow.. it's finished, but i want more.

i've never much liked the ending theme song, but my mind's changed since watching the last episode. That orchestra feel makes the ending more dramatic and i can't get that music out of my head!

Yeah, it's nice to find an anime that has good ending. As far as the ending song went, I always liked it, but I guess I could just be a little off.

Applying a 2D look to 3D animation is called "cel shaded" or "cel rendered" animation. Like in this anime, Zoids, the new Appleseed. It is the wave of the future ladies and germs, like it or not.

Now that you mention it those thoughts have crossed my mind but I wasn't really too bothered by them not being answered because I was so happy that this anime actually had a pretty complete ending .

I also got the impression that the guild members are a form of alien species or some sort of enhanced human one (kinda like gundam seed ). Since the setting is sorta like a fantasy world I pretty much accepted everything as it was. Alien or not the guild is a group of their own.

But why Alu has that power does kinda bother me. I'd really wanna know! . Can you remember if it's implied in any way in the series? Anything about her past and so on? Then again it isn't crucial to the plot that we know this, it's just the way things are .

As far as I remember, the only thing that is said about Alvis' family is that they kept one of the mysteriums (I think that was what it was called, the phrase things that everyone was looking for). They said one of the parts was from the 'Hamilton' mysterium or something. I suppose that her power is something in her family, but it's not really talked about or implied more than that as far as I know.

It's been a few months since I watched it all, so I can't remember anything more than that.

I wouldn't call it a new trend... There are unusually few questions left unanswered in this anime. Normally an anime sort of just ends leaving loads of loose ends... take Full Metal Panic or Tokyo Underground as a few examples.

i really like how despite that fact that there's nothing 'special' in Claus and Lavi, they are portrayed in a way that leaves the viewers appreciate their existence in the anime and also not turn them into 'nobody turns super hero'. The ordinary way of how ordinary people can be special as well kind of appeals to me.

well I gues they are... well the kenshin anime is another example... flame of recca... and tenchi... talk about no ending . but I guess you're right that there are even more animes with no conclusion out there today than there were before... I had to think for a while to name older animes. Than again I haven't really seen that many older animes (I'm calling kenshin an old anime... he heh)
