With fossils I think it depends on whether you consider complete mineralization, that is replacement of everything by minerals, which takes a lot of time or permineralization, that is permeation of the structure by minerals which can happen much faster. That's how you get things like "fossilized" cowboy boots and YEC take full advantage of possible confusion between the two processes. Perhaps others can tell you more.yak said:Do we have any facts on how long it takes to make coal, oil, natural gas, fossils, etc... Or is it all a theory on the amount of time it takes. Has someone created this is a lab or better yet in real life in there back yard. I have heard it is a matter of a few years for petrified wood to be created.
Here is criticism of AiG's claims of rapid coal formation
http://www.geocities.com/earthhistory/aigcoal.htm
Diluvial models of coal formation are inconsistent with a wide variety of observations, and can be dismissed as untenable. Criticisms of autochthonous models made by AiG and other creationists are based largely on factual errors, misleading statements, and failure to consider all data. Moreover, given the strong evidence for autochthony and the slow pace of peat accumulation even under near ideal conditions (less than 1cm or so) (e.g. Diemont and Supardi 1987), the presence of numerous thick autochthonous coals in the geologic record is yet another indication that the earth is far older than young-earthers would like to believe.
Further, it doesn't matter how rapidly some processes may have occured, there is clear evidence of vast stretches of time in the earth's geology as has been pointed out above and the idea that any portion of the earth's geology was deposited in the last few thousand years by a worldwide flood was falsified nearly 200 years ago. As I have pointed out several times the worldwide flood is falsified by
