TV stations used to have VTR's (a broadcast VCR) without any color circuitry, not many, but they did exsist.

 

At the university where I'm at, it's required to have braille room numbers on the doors.  We'll in a building we just built, they did not have them ready yet.  So they put up photo copies of them.
