Sign Of Jonah??

Read Matthew 16 v 1-4.
I don't quite understand what the sign of Jonah is. I'm guessing it's something of importance for the Jews(?). Can someone explain?

Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. <-----> Matthew 12:38-40

I don't think it meant anything to the Pharisees and Saducees, just as it took a long time to sink in with the 12 disciples.

Ok then I still don't get it properly. Why does it say that it is the only sign we need??

Yea , whenever possible , let the Bible answer , and expound upon itself .

Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God . <-----> Matthew 4:1-4

Remembering to look up the meaning of the words used also , when seeking clarification . ( Strong's Concordance w/ Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries & Comprehensive English Dictionaries - are good helps . )
