  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought last month was lousy, but so far, June has really been much, much worse.

Everything has hit the fan, so to speak. The A/C system went to smithereens. $500 for a service call, only for the guy to tell us that the system is shot and needs to be replaced. Heaven alone only knows how much that'll cost. The window on my wife's vehicle went out; we had to get that repaired in case it rains.....we can't park it inside, because the garage is packed with the contents of my son's room, which is in the basement and suffered a surge pump malfunction back in March and has to be re-done---drywall, carpeting, paint, etc. Insurance is picking most of that up, but it's going to take them until the end of June to get it all done.

Last Sunday I took a spill from a bicycle and skinned up my left knee---an injury that should be left to 8-to-10 year olds; the day before yesterday I got hit with extreme vertigo and nasty nausea. Ended up in the ER last night because of it. They determined it's nothing major, gave me a bunch of drugs for it, killed the nausea, but this morning I'm still pretty loopy. Momma has to pick up a prescription for me later today to combat it. VA, fortunately, will pick up the tab for the hospital visit.

And just now, Momma came home from taking the dog to the vet and said that somehow or other, we are overdrawn at the bank.....last she looked, we had $3000.00 in there, now we have less than $200.00. She's on the phone right now, trying to figure out how this took place. $200.00 is not going to get us through the rest of the week, let alone the rest of the month.

I don't know. I'm a 100% disabled veteran on a limited income; I cannot keep up with the constant round of major repairs and malfunctions that keep happening, one right after the other. I need a break so I can build some of my income back up.

Ugh! It’s been one thing after another here too. I pray the Lord gives you a break and some respite. These periods can hit you on every level.

Good heavens, when it rains it pours.

I'm sorry so many things are happening, especially at once. I really hope that bank issue gets sorted out too, there are few things worse than a large amount of money disappearing unaccounted for.

Is your guys house a big one? I wonder if, at least a temporary fix, you guys could maybe get a window A/C from a place like Costco just to get you through the hottest months? Since replacing a central HVAC system can sometimes cost $10-15K depending on the brand, size of the house, and things like that. But maybe a small solution like this would give you guys more time to save for replacing a larger central system?

Well, we figured out where the money went---it was just a series of large payments that came one after the other and all hit at the same time. Nothing shifty about it, it just is what it is.

Momma managed to snag a loan from one of the local banks ("There's a bunch of crooks for you---they're willing to lend you money if you can prove you don't need it. You want a friend in this world, get a dog." Harry S Truman) so hopefully we can float through the month okay.

The new heating A/C system will run us $16,500, which is a lot, but a heckuva lot better than the first quote we got, which was more than $30,000. :( We just paid off one of the vehicles, so that's $300.00 a month off the tab, but we may have to put the same vehicle up as collateral for the loan....won't know until Monday. The geothermal system we have will not work with existing stuff we can actually afford, so that'll be disconnected, and they'll install a heat pump. This is all predicated on the assumption that we can get financing for the new heating/cooling system. (sigh)

On the plus side, I'm feeling quite a bit better than I did for the last two days----even managed to get a light load of laundry done, woo-hoo; and Noah really enjoys his new job. He's working in a frozen food warehouse where stuff with close expiration dates or which has been damaged (i.e., a pallet of packaged frozen meat that was knocked over onto the floor, or some such thing) is bought by this company and repackaged for sale at lowered prices. One of the perks for the employees is, they can take stuff that falls on the floor during repackaging home for free, if they want it. So far, the kid has brought home chicken patties, cocktail weenies, a corned beef roast, and a ton of really nice bacon. It will certainly help with the food bills, and he's making $20.00 an hour with full benefits after 90 days. Of course, the plant is better than halfway to Grand Rapids from here, so we'll be spending more in gas money.

So, I guess what it boils down to is, dig in my teeth and hang on tight. God is still in charge, but He likes to play 'em awfully close to the vest. :(
