• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

As my username announces, I have cyclothymia. It's similar to bipolar. I'm new to this site, yes, but I'm not afraid to get deep about myself.

Right now, I don't want to go to a nice family dinner for my brother's birthday at an awesome Japanese restaurant. I don't know why. I had a great day, I just got back from a youth group meeting...

This happens all the time! I don't go from manic to depressive, I go from angry to apathetic and I'm on meds and I actually try to work hard in therapy, so why do I still do this?

Just thought I'd share my feelings...thanks, it felt good.

it's normal. meds help us. but we still need practice with managing skills. managing skills is two-fold. (1.) to manage through the circumstances. and (2.) using management techniques. we all have different coping skills, different needs, and different personalities. you need to (sounds like you are doing pretty good so far), keep surrounding yopurself with resources that support and teach you the specifics of what you need... then it's keeping a list handy when thinking is clouded; and learning to practice them, and practice staying on task with them. it teaches us to respond: so when you find something that gives you the ability to have an awesome response... then you've learned a different skill to manage.

check out this thread. and feel free to add things you do... Sticky: *~*~*~*...us Bipolar exsperts on managing skills...*~*~*~* (

also: don't feel guilty for not 'handling trials in a picture perfect chistian manner'... lol. i'm sure there is no such thing. i just know that in the mist of trials, thorns, faults, questions, and even complaints and doubts: 100% love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, salvation, and adoration from God; for just being His, is an unconditional gift. ~ love dee

Hi welcome.

One of the biggest steps i ever made towards recovery was realizing i don't have to provide a reason, good or otherwise, to why i feel the way i do. I guess it was a part of accepting my illness. I feel the way i feel. Period. Then I could begin to apply coping skills, med's etc without all the blaming myself stuff.
