Many Christians do watch that show (including my wife and daughter). However, if the magic themes make you feel uncomfortable or convicted, there's nothing wrong with avoiding the show. There are no black and white rules about TV shows, but I do try to stay away from anything that brings in occult or evil religious themes. My family is OK with fairy tale stuff like Once Upon a Time.

One of the best loved apologists of modern times C.S. Lewis used magical themes, to give a rendition of the Gospel story. You know it better as the Lion The Witch and The wardrobe. Aslan sacrifices his life for that of Edmunds.

Lewis wrote many books but one of his best is Mere Christianity. A fabulous read according to many many Christians.

I'm not saying this is right. Look you're a Christian, your faith is in Christ. Your belief is in Christ. You are to follow your conscience and the Word of God. I find many movie concepts make it easy to describe complex matters. If I was to say, like the matrix, a lot of people would know instantly what I'm trying to describe, I find it helpful when spreading the gospel.

Much is permissible but not everything is expedient... See Cor 10

Do you guys think that shows such as Once upon a Time are ok to watch? For those of you who don't know it's an adult drama that revolves around the lives of fairy tale killers? My only "Christian concern" is that it does have some magical components: does that make it un Christian or a sin to watch?

Unless you do not have the confidence for it. Do not do anything lacking confidence.

It is clean for me, but may not be for you.

Don't try and wipe away the metaphoric and see everything as unclean. Look deeper.

Or, yes, you are with an impure heart, and so can get burned.

I used to be looser with what I watched, until I noticed how many flashbacks I had of childhood TV shows that influenced me. I realized that some of these shows "raised me" --taught me about tolerance and diversity, different cultures, career possibilities, ways to set boundaries.

What you put in your mind, stays in your mind and becomes part of you, whether positive or negative reactions. It can be like having computer files you don't look at, or that you think won't be a problem.. but every once in a while you run across the file names and get flashbacks.

Use your time well; life is short.
