Well, with all the talk of studies, here are some for you -

Critics claim that spanking a child is abusive and contributes to adult dysfunction. These allegations arise from studies that fail to distinguish appropriate spanking from other forms of punishment. This is the best site overall, which has information from many other studies.

With that said, I would like to add that people that spend a large amount of time or effort protesting spanking, should instead be working against real child abuse. Real, practicing Christians are generally warm, loving parents and should not be the target of other Christians attacks, imo. However, I do understand that a lot of topics posted here are simply for the enjoyment of debating, and not necessarily to try to teach others.
