  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When it comes to Amnesty for the 12,000,000 that's twelve Million Illegals in the U.S today, we need to remember, during the Administration of Jimmy Carter we gave Amnesty to 10,000,000 that's ten Million, do we continue to grant Amnesty every couple of Decades, why have a Border at all.

I don't recall Carter granting Amnesty...do you have a link to that information? President Reagan granted amnesty to 3 million in 1986.

It's not let's be kind and give these people Amnesty, Citizenship, it's hey folks, it costs the American People for every person given Amnesty, that money will be gone it will never be replaced.

And don't forget about the millions of current American citizens who can't find work because of the illegals filling those jobs. The taxpayer is having to foot that bill too in the form of unemployment, disability, Welfare and Foodstamps.

We should make up our minds.

We need to take care of the unemployment crisis and all of the out of work Americans. OR

We have the lowest unemployment in 40 years, and we need to train workers to fill the jobs that are going wanting.

And don't forget about the millions of current American citizens who can't find work because of the illegals filling those jobs. The taxpayer is having to foot that bill too in the form of unemployment, disability, Welfare and Foodstamps.

For the record, they weren't any better than Clinton was, they were all Dodgers as far as I'm concerned.

So we bring back the draft and have everyone serve?

.
No not at all, we do away with WAR and bring everyone home.

What if there was a War and nobody showed up?
What then would the Politicians do?

Let's take a step back.

Our legal immigration rate has tripled over the past few decades to about a million a year. There are about 12 million illegals in this country looking to become citizens (including almost 2 million DACA kids). Our priority must be these folks, not millions of Central Americans who are trying to enter the country.
If we must, spend the billions to fight the gangs in Central America. As a country, we are willing accept very few Syrians from a war zone. Why should we accept hundreds of thousands from Central America?
==================================
DO WE WANT TO ACCEPT ASYLUM SEEKERS FROM CENTRAL AMERICA
Should we set up a humane, welcoming process for coming in at the legal bridge crossing, and send a few thousand down to help those who want to come in go through the month's long process? Trump's process is terrible. The problem is real. If we were to have a welcoming process for accepting those who feel unsafe at home because of gangs, the line would be very long indeed.

Do we want to accept asylum seekers into the US from Central America? Are those who decided to pay smugglers somehow different then those who remained in Central America?

How many? 20,000, 1 million, only those with kids?

HOW SHOULD WE HANDLE THOSE WHO COME IN ILLEGALLY?
Should they be treated the same as those who try to enter legally across our border, or from their own countries? They tried to sneak in. They will ask for asylum. Should we then give them a preliminary hearing and set them free to wait for their hearing. This seems a fine process for those who want to come in illegally. If they are caught, they have a certain amount of time in the US. We deport them and they can try again.
=======
.
What would happen if all of the Illegals were allowed to stay, and all those who have filed Legally for entrance were then told they would have to wait until the quota was such that they could then be let in, because someone got in line ahead of them?

My daughter in law’s brother has that problem. He came here as s child from India , his mom finally got her green card but she didn’t make enough money to get her kids their green cards . Now he’s an adult and they want to deport him and he doesn’t even speak the language anymore. Do you think he deserves be treated like a criminal? This the situation with a lot of these DACA people . Their families were just too poor to get the immigration paperwork done. It took me, my son and my sister’s records to get my daughter in law’s green card and a lot of harassment
You don’t know what you’re talking about when you call these people criminals.

The Democratic Party has a way of responding to defeats. We allow the far left to take over for a cycle. This has happened many times since McGovern in 1972. And yes, many are isolationist.

IMHO< the Democrats may very well lose in 2020, especially if Trump doesn't run. I agree that the party has shown nothing that would make me believe that the necessary lessons have been learned.

Absolutely.... this is a case of where the Monroe doctrine could serve progressive ends. The only problem is that many on the Left are infatuated with isolationism just as much as Republicans. I really think is the case where we will learn all the wrong lessons from Hillary's defeat as doves take over the Democrat party.

What are the Statistics, what are the percentages of the 12,000,000 who are Professional, Collage Educated, Skilled Workers, Uneducated Field Workers.

How many of these 12,000,000 will be given Social Security, Food Stamps, Health Care?

My understanding is that, when immigrants become established with a job, they pay back more in tax than they received in welfare benefits....

I believe there is a difference between an Immigrant, and an Illegal Alien.

It isn't the Immigrant which causes the problems, they are assimilated into the fabric of the Country, but the Illegal Alien, disrupts the system which is set up to handle the influx of Legal Immigrants, thereby putting an unreasonable burden on that system which now has to provide extra finances for those Illegal Aliens.

Again, that doesn’t seem to be true....

“Millions of undocumented immigrants file tax returns each year, and they are paying taxes for benefits they can’t even use.”
“Those undocumented workers paid taxes for benefits they can’t even use, like Social Security and Medicare. They also aren’t eligible for benefits like the earned income tax credit. But the IRS still expects unauthorized immigrants to file their taxes, and many of them do so.”

Undocumented immigrants pay billions of dollars in federal taxes each year

IMHO, illegal aliens are primarily working Americans. these two arguments are in conflict.

ARGUMENT 1
Illegal aliens are stealing all the low skill jobs. Many Americans cannot find jobs because illegal aliens are filling those jobs (and paying payroll taxes, having income taxes withheld, paying sales taxes, property taxes and all the rest).

ARGUMENT 2
Illegal aliens provide an unreasonable burden. Most can't collect unemployment or social security or welfare or medicaid or medicare.
