A lot of women were actually against women suffrage.The point being made was that denying the vote to women would have been a satirical sketch back in the seventies by...well, by people you wouldn't know from that time in the UK like Peter Cook, Moore, Bennett and Jonathan Miller in something like Beyond The Fringe. We'd laugh because they would stretch what just might be feasable to some people to a monstrously ridiculous extent. Thus pointing out the nonsensical position of what those people might suggest as being possible in the first place.
