Seems people say worse things about our president each and every day and they suffer no consequences, so why should Roseanne Barr after apologizing?
M-Bob
No... it wasn't a bright thing to say but are we really to the point of punishing thought? If yes... then the bible being labeled as "hate speech" is just around the corner!

It just seems like that because of ignorance of racism and bigorty, or downright dismissal of it.

An apology doesn't change what is actually in your heart, and what she said is what is in her heart. She does represent Trump's people according to Trump. What she said isn't surprising or stunning to me.

The apologetic, passive-aggressive bigots and racists that try to make everyone racist by comparison, and marginalize the junk that comes out of their heart and brain are the best kind to see exposed. This is because they spent so much time trying to disprove what many already knew about them.

Roseanne is this type of bigot, and ABC Disney needed to fire her to keep their image at BEST "dingy." Ho hum.

Because of her political view supporting Trump, ABC took the first excuse made available to fire her and cancel the show. Same thing happened to Tim Allen, although Allen will be renewing his show on Fox. Perhaps Roseanne will be given the same offer as Allen.

Her firing is going to backfire against ABC. Trump has been actively calling main stream media "fake news" and this firing is going to be one more example of the media bias against, not only conservatives, but against this country.

No. I'm not a fan and have never seen the show, and she was being unkind and it shouldn't have been said, but I don't care what's in her heart. None of my business. I am not going to change her heart. This will just harden her up some more plus a whole bunch of other people. Both sides are feeding on each other and they can go ahead. What's in most celebrities hearts is all pure garbage anyway and so what.

Sending out a public tweet isn't "thought". It's a communication. She's facing consequences for what she *did* not what she *thinks*. She could think the exact words she tweeted all day long and it wouldn't have caused any problems.

If yes... then the bible being labeled as "hate speech" is just around the corner!

Not even remotely.

That's absurd. They already knew her views and nobody put a gun to their heads to create the program in the first place.

It's not about politics--they already knew her politics--it's all about the Benjamins. She could have tweeted as much about Trump as she wanted, but she crossed the racism red line that would cost more Benjamins than her show paid.

It's not about presidential politics. Notice what happened to Joy Reid--totally a liberal--whose past anti-gay blog posts came back to haunt her. Despite her liberal credits, even despite her current pro-gay stance, those past posts killed her career.

Comparing someone to Planet of the Apes and the Muslim Brotherhood, while not nice, pales in comparison to the numerous, unfunny, disgusting tweets and jabs I've seen the media and the so-called late-night comedians say about Trump. They're hypocrites. And no, I don't think people should lose their job over a tweet. It's ridiculous, but ABC has a right as a company to fire her.

Right. ABC knows who Roseanne is; they wouldn't have spent the money to reboot the show if they weren't ready to take on some controversy. The family is a blue-collar "Trump" family with a black kid... ABC was ready for controversy.

But ABC is also a business and has no obligation to support something that would cost them money (ABC is a politically left-leaning moderate network.) I suppose if I didn't care about calling other people apes (especially someone who has the physical appearance of those humans who were called apes for much of American history), if I didn't know the magnitude of the epithet, ignorant, or downright don't care - this wouldn't be a bother. For everyone else who doesn't want to support a multi-million platform built on the blocks of the forgotten "greatness of America," it is pretty insulting, and would be even more insulting if the show was still on air. The actual show is already hyperbolic bigotry against the backdrop of "middle America."

Valerie Jarrett is not black. She is Iranian. Any dark skin does not equal black.

We have freedom of speech in this country... and while what she said was ignorant, she has the freedom to do it. Just like the liberals who say things just as bad about Trump. The only difference is... they get patted on the back by people like ABC, when the ignorant conservative gets punished.

Not even remotely.

God calls homosexuality an abomination. How well do you think that will be received in a place like San Francisco if you were to go outside and repeat it on the streets? Not only would they arrest you for simply repeating what God said, but the media would make it look like you were an extreme right wing conservative loon who needs a lobotomy or electro-shock therapy, or something.

No one has ever brought up a racially bigoted insult against Trump - so engrained in American culture that Americans have forgetten about it except a knee-jerk reaction it it being brought up.

Donald Trump doesn't even get the same slack he himself gave Obama, Clinton, or even Ted Cruz. Trump is the hypocritical one - the one who says he doesn't need forgiveness. He is the one who is seen by his supporters as defensible against the indefensible. He throws stones, hides his hands, and then tells his supporters that he didn't do anything, but if he had...

This is no different than any other politician; the problem is when people try to humanize politics, and politicians. In case you don't know, the feelings of hate and disdain for those you are told to hate or dislike is only for you. He and Hillary are friends, politics is a game, he does great business with CHINA and the MIDDLE EAST (many of whom are MUSLIMS) and you are being exploited for your emotional energy, money and vote. If you don't see that, and how your alignment with any politician will evolve this result, you will be in perpetual shame without even realizing it. You are a sovereign human; do not squander your identity for an entity that would spoil it. Or, do it, but dont act like the rest of us who dont do it are somehow ludicrous for not drinking out of the DrainO bottle with a post-it that says "KOOLAID."

Iranians are called sand [you know the word] in the West, because they are darker, and from the middle east. For this reason, they are also called monkeys and apes by Westerners, especially as a racial epithet.

Have you never heard of the Blue Vein Club, or the Paper Bag/Manila Folder test? In America, every dark skin person equates to the n-word, or an animal. Being black is to be an animal, so it isn't a stretch except for someone who doesn't know or care to know the history to believe what you just said. In fact, this argument is trite but expected.

The behavior of the people greatly differs from your insinuations and qualifications.

Yes, we do have freedom of speech. Please witness how Roseanne is not in jail. We also are responsible for what we say.

Roseanne chose to exercise her freedom of speech. A non-governmental entity decided they no longer wished to associate with her in a business relationship as a result.

Oh please. People say that on public streets on a regular basis. Is it well received? I'm betting no, but nowhere does it say that if you say something in public that people are required to like it. Again, unless you are arrested specifically for what you have said (as opposed to blocking traffic, running afoul of a noise ordinance, or doing something which would get you in trouble no matter what you were saying), then your freedom of speech has not been infringed.

I have no problem with ABC doing what they did in light of her comments anymore than I have a problem with whoever was paying Kathy Griffin's salary cutting her off for her stunt. Free speech doesn't mean free from consequences. Hopefully Rosanne uses this experience as a launching point for introspection and repentance.

What a pack of lies. Trump has gotten it 1000 times harsher than Obama ever did. He was the 'chosen one' in the media, rarely attacked. Bill Maher said his mom had sex with an orangutan to produce him. They've made fun of the color of his skin numerous times. They've made fun of his last name, calling him Drumpf (making fun of his German heritage). They attacked his kids extremely viciously. They made fun of Melania's accent, despite the fact that she can speak 5 languages.

Even Jimmy Carter, a very liberal man, said he hasn't seen any president get it worse from the media than Donald Trump. You're being dishonest if you think otherwise.

Since Jimmy Carter said it, it must be true.

In fact, it isn't.

"They made fun of Melania's accent."

People on here still call Michelle Obama an ape-man in a dress; get over a comment about someone's enunciation like blacks are told in America to get over slavery and racism.

Almost laughable you think making fun of someone's name or ability to pronounce words is the same as calling someone an ape, or a woman a man.

And, Americans don't make fun of the color of the skin of hyphenated Americans only - they go straight for the kill and call them n-words, sand n-words, apes, monkeys, blackie, lazy, and other colorful monikers highlighting their disdain and bigotry. Trump's skin color is obnoxious because it is seemingly over-tanned and leathery. That is not a comment that is meant to resonate with him, his identity in this nation, and what it means for his history, and future in this nation.
