• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm wondering if I should tell my Dad. I know it would be extremely difficult for both of us (it would be hard for me to tell him; extremely hard, and it would be a bombshell for him), but if I told him in complete privacy and made him swear not to tell anyone.

Or should I just wait until I've completed the settingcaptivesfree course I'm doing, and then once I finally do find freedom, share with him my victory?

What have some other people done?

Just to let you know, I probably won't tell anyone. I just wouldn't have the courage.

The first person I told about my struggles with homosexuality was a guy I didn't know very well who I met at a Christian conference - but he was a youth leader so he was used to dealing with guys' problems. It was great telling him, and even though I'm now free from homosexuality I still haven't told my dad, and I'm not sure if I'm going to.

If your dad's not a Christian then I wouldn't tell him - and then another thing is that you've got to be careful because not all Christians believe that you can be set free from homosexuality.

The best person to tell is your youth leader IMO, he won't judge you, he won't think you're weird, but he'll offer support, guidance and prayer for you  :)

I feel in the same boat. I know I will have a great testimony in the long run, but I just don't think telling someone right now would benefit me. As for you, if you don't have the courage to or just don't want to, don't. There's no point in doing something you're completely uncomfortable with.

It totally depends upon ur situation. Personally, I felt so free when I told my friends and parents! Even tho my parents reacted horribly. But I'm not trying to convince u. It's ur decision. U must be ready for when u do it. And if u don't want to do it then there's no reason for u to. ;)

He did react well (I saw him at church today), and it's like nothing's changed (for the worse anyway), so it's all panned out pretty well.
have you talked to your dad in person about it at all? you may want to... I know with my mom as hard as it is for me to physically talk to her, if I do it makes the situation a lot bettter, for both of us. Even if its just a short conversation it can help.

The fact is your dad will find out. I know that sounds scary, but take comfort in it, acknowledge it.

He's your dad and he loves you, he might turn another shade of red but it WILL pass, love IS stronger than pride.:)

PM me, I'd love to know more about what your going through because I have 2 close guy friends who are going through a similar thing and I want to know more about it.
