Okay so I'm playing this game on Kongregate. Its called Dungeon Crusher. In this game there are heroes that you can pay real $$$ for that are made up gods. And whenever people refer to them they refer to them as "the gods". This extremely bugs me because I only believe in one God and I think that all people should believe in the same God I do. This game is also completely full of atheists who blaspheme the name of our Lord 50,000 times a day and they keep saying things like "the gods be willing rngesus will give you the drop you need". I find it SO offensive! Then they went on when I got offended and said that people used to sacrifice animals to Jesus so why not sacrifice other things to hope that they get the drop they need? Then I go on to explain why people used to sacrifice animals to Jesus and they just laugh at me!

Its just SO offensive and it makes me want to stop playing the game. But I also spent a lot of money on this game and I like playing it and I've made friends on the game that I like talking to. I'm also pretty far in the game and I'm pretty popular. Should I keep playing it even if most people insult and mock me for my religious beliefs? I know our Lord said we will be mocked and persecuted for following him but I can't take it anymore! I'm sick of people blaspheming the name of my Lord and Savior! I wish they'd stop! Or at least be semi respectful to my religious beliefs. I respect that they're atheists! I don't insult and mock them for their beliefs! Nor do I mock the name of Albert Einstein or whoever they look up to! So why the double standard? Why is my Lord insulted and mocked while theirs is just left behind? Its so stupid!

It's kind of like being on a religious discussion board, wouldn't you say? ;)

I think you have to decide if you can stand the bad actors or if it ruins your day to play the game very long because of them. I don't think there's a theological issue involved for you, but you are right that it's offensive and wrong what they are doing.

It is wrong. Because they're basically saying "Jesus is God so he will give us the drops we need". Or what about people who say Jesus Christ or Oh my you know what? I find that offensive too. I mean they shouldn't be mocking me because I'm a Christian. Christians don't mock atheists. Its true that we try to bring them to the Lord but it is out of love.

That is a difficult one. First of all, though, nobody ever sacrificed animals to the Lord Jesus; not that I know of. The sacrifices in the Temple were to God, not to Jesus. That might seem like splitting hairs, but I think accuracy matters.

As to your dilemma; on the one hand you have paid a lot of money and you like the game.

On the other hand you have to hear a lot of verbal abuse aimed directly at you and your beliefs; make no mistake they would not be saying that stuff if they didn't know it would provoke you and with any luck cause you to play less thoughtfully. They are playing you, in other words. If you really want them to stop then stop responding to it in any way; they are doing it for a reason.

So, here is an idea. Tell them once that you won't put up with blasphemy any more. Any blasphemy and you are out of the game until another day. Then make sure you keep to this; at the first inappropriate comment just leave. Don't say anything; just go.

If you really have friends in that game they will stop blaspheming, because they will want you to carry on playing. If they are not really friends they will carry on, you will keep on leaving as soon as they do, and that game will not be as much fun for anyone. And then you can find another game to play, where you are not forced to listen to verbal abuse. Make no mistake it is not aimed at the Lord; it is aimed at you.

The behaviour you allow is the behaviour you condone. It is your choice.

... and while you are at it, stop trying to bring them to the Lord. Out of love or not, it isn't appropriate for this context. If they want to find the Lord I am pretty sure they know where to find him.

If I were you I would stop.
Bad communications corrupt good manners.
Then Peter talks about Lot vexing his righteous soul day after day. Lot didn't turn out so well.
There is a story (1 Chronicles I think) where a king had paid another country a lot of money for there soldiers and a prophet of the LORD came to him and told him he should depend on God alone and forget reliance on this other country. The king replied, but I put out all this money and the prophet replied, God can bless you so much more than what you've already spent.

Yes, RNGesus sounds like "Jesus", but they don't think of Christ. I don't believe most people are blaspheming Jesus in their hearts when they use these words. It's just one of those gaming terms now that might get another name in the future, no matter how we feel about it. And as for the mocking, most people don't mock unless they feel someone is pushing religion on them. I guess I'd just take it easy and avoid arguing with people, and be kind to them, no matter how they behave.

I think they were referring to the belief that many Christians have of Jesus being the God of the Old Testament. So therefore yes people used to sacrifice animals to Jesus. But you could argue that during OT times they didn't know that Jesus was God or who Jesus even was. They just sacrificed animals to God to erase their sins. It doesn't matter in the long run whether or not that God was Jesus.

They did mean Jesus. They called him rngesus because he would give them the drop that they need in the game for their heroes. The worst part is I wasn't even pushing my religion on them I was just talking and saying "hey I'm kind of offended that you would talk about my Lord and Savior like that." and then they were like "lets just troll him really really hard because we know he's going to have a really funny reaction to it"

I'm considering it. Because I shouldn't be talked to like that. I mean it is the internet and all and there are trolls everywhere but I still think that other people should be respectful to other peoples religions.

I remember when the term started. It was a while ago. They don't mean "Jesus" in their hearts. It's more like a joke aimed at the RNG (random number generator) system. Nobody is really hoping for Jesus Christ to give them some items in a video game, no matter how much they almost use His name, and nobody is serious about it. It sounds a lot worse than what it really is. I'm an old gamer, I'm used to this stuff. I don't say that word myself, but I can't help what others do.

I know it can feel bad, especially if you say that you're offended, but that's just it. We can't force people to act the way we'd like. The best way is to lead by example, I guess, and swallow our pride when it's needed. People won't turn to Christ if we're offended, or if we tell them what to do. Just treat them well, and let God handle the rest. But if it really makes you uncomfortable, you shouldn't take that either because it's just a game and games shouldn't be forcibly endured. So either play with select friends or try keeping a break.

Erm, that might not even be what they were saying. Plenty of people who claim to be Christians will pray for God to give them what they want. No difference there between asking for drops in a video game or "drops" in real life like a raise at work. I don't see why that would offend you so much, because then at least Jesus would be in on it. But RNG-w/e isn't Jesus. The real implication of these players' words is that there is no god, but only random chance. The atheist worldview in a nutshell. And then they take His name in vain on top of it.

Crap, Tempura stole my answer. :p

As for trolls in a game, their behavior is 100% predictable. This is why I don't talk in online games (well, partly why). Even if they change their behavior, more will take their place who haven't. So, that's really the atmosphere you should weigh.

Oh I wasn't aware that it was a term. I used to be an atheist too but I never heard the term rngesus before. You're right. I should continue to act in love and help people in the game progress further. I can just stick the people who persecute me on ignore. One of the people persecuting me was my guild leader though. Well he used to be my guild leader but he gave guild lead to someone else. So I can't stick him on ignore. Maybe I can talk to the new guild leader and ask him if he can ask the guy to stop.

You tried to control their speech in an open to the public forum. It wasn't wrong for you to ask them to stop but ultimately that is all you can do about it.

Your answer was better though!

Yeah, trolls and the communication in general is just...I don't want to deal with it much. I prefer single player games myself or in some cases closed MP sessions with select people. If it's an open MP match, I'll just opt out of voice/chat comms entirely. Less clutter on the screen and crap in my ears. Not that people can't have nice sessions with random people, they surely can, but I'm already a grumpy man so I prefer some privacy and quiet!

Our lord is mocked because He is truth.
Should you continue to play the game, err. No!
I know you spent a lot of money,
I know you really enjoy it,
I know you have made friends,
But if Jesus turned up out of the blue and asked you, to either follow them or follow me
Which would you choose?

Luke 14:33
Not only are you hanging onto your possessions, your hanging on to stuff that blasphemes our Saviour, it’s a no brained dude.

Just like eating meat that is offered to other Gods, they knew perfecly well there were no other Gods so it was fine to eat the meat. Same would apply here, but only to the basic question.

The actions of others in the game is another issue, and it sounds to me like you have more than answered your own question on if you should be there or not, at least as far a wanting to or not.

Then there is the question, can you do any good there?

Take everything into consideration and decide for yourself.
