I went to my prom and had the best time of my life! I know some people that didnt go for the reason that are kind of skeptical about...They regret it now...

People do dance kind of "nasty" but that is nothing. Just go with a bunch of friends and have the time of your life. It is your Senior Prom...dont miss it! ;)

I didnt like how the people were dancing, but I didnt dance that way, so it really didnt matter. I wasnt one of those people, I went with my boyfriend at the time (my ex) and we had so much fun...Plus, I just love getting all dressed up and going out...I got to ride in a limo and everything, dont miss it...You will regret it if you do. Atleast, you know if you go and hate it, atleast you went...If you dont go and hear people talking about it at school you will regret not going...So go and have fun!

Greetings my brothers and sisters!

I am a 16 year old female who is a junior in high school and I have an important question:

Should I attend my senior prom? I went to Homecoming this year (first time ever) and was shocked at the way people were dancing. I think you all know what type of dancing I am talking about, where girls um....rub themselves all over the guy in places that aren't exactly..appropriate.

I know that the dancing isn't godly, nor is the music being played. I dont want to put myself in a dangerous situation where I might fall into sin or temptation, because to be honest, I almost did at homecoming.

The question is: should I carry my cross and sacrifice prom to please God? We as christians are called to be different from the world, a royal priesthood.

But its PROM!! A once in a lifetime opportunity. I just love dressing up, getting your hair done, and taking pictures with your friends. My mom is also looking forward to it.

What should I do? How many people here attended their high school prom?
My mom would freak out if I told her I wasn't going to my senior prom. She would think I was going "overboard" if I told her the true reason.

Thanks you so much guys, I love ya!
God bless from your sis in Christ,
Haley
Hey Haley. What I did: I bought two tickets, one for me... and then I went to church and asked a group of 8th graders, Who'd like to go with me to the prom? No, i'm not kidding.

Prom is, um, much different from those other dances. People dress up at their finest. The music played is different, and the kind of dancing you see is different too ... unless things have changed in the 3 years since I graduated.

I recommend going. If you don't have a boyfriend, feel free to invite someone from youth group - a friend, a stranger even. Or pick someone you'd like to get to know better.

WOW!

So many responses! I had no clue that i would get this many responses. Thanks a lot guys, I really do appreciate the input.

*Sigh* I still haven't made a decision, but ya know what? i have plenty of time to decide. Prom isn't until May anyway, so i'm still safe. I'm just one of those people who like to plan things out ahead of time.

Personally, I just dont think thats an enviroment for a Christian to be in, but then again that is my personal conviction which doesn't mean that you're "sinful" if you think it is okay to attend high school prom.

When it boils down to it, I'll just have to let the Holy Spirit be my guide. Whats that old proverb? In all your ways acknowledge God and He will...wait no. Commit yourselves then to God..no hold on... In all your ways acknowlege Him and He shall make your paths straight. Is that right? LOL!

In the beginning I did not want to go to Homecoming at all, like I stated in my first post. I guess you could say the Holy Spirit wasn't really pulling me in that direction, but my friend wanted to go really bad...so I went.

I just dont want to regret NOT going to prom, you know?
What would Jesus do? ha ha..thats so cliche.

God bless yall,
Haley

P.S I think Jesus would go just to preach the Good News. One of my friends went to Homecoming (the one i went to) and she is ON FIRE for God. She is one of the worship leaders at her church and is really involved, but anyway she ended up witnessing to a person at homecoming. A girl asked her why she wasn't dancing with her boyfriend who was her date (in that not so tasteful sort of way) and she simply told her "I'm a Christian". The girl ended up saying, "Well, I'm a Christian too and i'm dancing." She pulled the whole "Its no big deal" and my friend started preaching to her in a loving way. it was really cool, I think.

OK, I'm a sophomore, and a guy, and haven't gone to prom yet, but I have gone to homecoming. So, this is my take. I can't wait for prom... it's a once in a lifetime chance that I don't want to give up and I know God wants me to have fun as long as it's clean. Dancing IS Godly, as long as it's dancing for Him... I mean, grinding and freaking isn't the holiest of acts, but dancing because it's what feels right isn't a sin and isn't bad. Just because other people are doing bad things doesn't mean you have to join... that's what being a Christian means, standing up for God's glory in adversity. I think it was Martin Luther King Jr. that said something like "The measure of a man is not where he stands in times of comfrot, but times of change and controversy." Anyways, you get the idea... You can stand up for something you believe in while having a good time. Having God in our lives doesn't mean we can't have fun... it just means the 'fun' that is so popular to a majority isn't what we SHOULD do. Therefore; go to your Prom, have a good time, but stay safe. Keep these memories as your own and ones to treasure as memories like these, I have found, are the ones that you will look back on and smile, instead of looking back and hoping you did the right thing because you were never there to experience it in the first place.
