I don't think that there is anything wrong with email. Like everyone else has already said, it's a tool...it's what you use it for that decides whether it is evil or not...even then email still wouldn't be evil...the person using it would...but I think I might be overthinking the question lol. I believe that her heart is in that right place, being that she really seems to want to glorify God, but there's nothing wrong with email.

I have a really good friend that keeps telling me that she doesn't believe that Christians should use email. It was not made by Christians and it does not glorify God. I said that there have been lots of things not made by Christians and we use them every day and they might not glorify God but they may be needed and useful. For instance I don't know who created the toliet and I do not know if he is a Christian but if he wasn't should we stop using toliets? If so where should we go to dispose of our waste? She did not have an answer for that one. So if anyone has a good reply for her on why email is not bad please let me know. Or if you also think email is bad tell me why.

Thanks :)
I personally think that she needs to pray about her thoughts... and maybe pray with a reverand over this matter.  I think that she is taking things a little too seriously, and that can make one possibly fall away, and we would not like to hear about that.  I will pray for her to gain knowledge on this matter also.

You said that your friend will use the phone if she is the one calling but will not answer if you call her. By her reasoning, she should not even be using the phone at all. Who knows who it was made by? Whoever it was, might not have been a Christian. I view a phone as pretty much being the same as e-mail, you just can't hear the other person's voice through e-mail like you can on a phone. They're just different ways to communiacate.

Also, an option for your friend as far as internet access goes may be a Christian internet provider. I don't have one myself but I hear that they do a good job of blocking out the bad stuff for you. Also, you can filter out your own internet whether it's Christian or not. You can pick the level of filtering that you want.

John Cr*per invented the toilet.

Things like TV and Computers are basicly netural. They can be used for good or evil. But the problem with a Computer is that it works off of human reason. The computer is programed to execute commands and you have to tell the computer what command to execute. It use to be we had to type the command into the computer. But the Amiga computers worked off of a Icon system. Where you would click on the icon to execute the command.

IBM users were screaming for a "user friendly" computer system so Bill Gates adapted the icon based system to the IBM. Anyone that has AOL knows that Steve Cases software does not always work real good with Bill Gates software. They are not known to be the best of friends. They see each other more as competition. Even sometimes they go into the court system to work their differences out so that their software will somewhat work with each other.

I don't have the slightest clue how someone could think email is evil. It makes no sense...

Then how come if the system can not deliver the email a deamon sends it back to us?

 dae·mon n. Variant of demon.
 de·mon n. 1. An evil supernatural being; a devil.

I get so many excellent Christian e-mails from a friend of mine......They are encouraging, supportive, informative, and at times funny. I would really miss out on a lot without them.

My wife would be in trouble without email. It takes up to three weeks to send a snail mail letter to the Philippines. But we can get a email there right away. Esp. if they want to send a photo or something like that.

Of course the telephone is pretty cheap now also. About 5 years ago I would pay up to $1.60 per min. to call asia on the phone and now it cost a lot less. Maybe around 30 cents or less a min.

 de·mon n. 1. An evil supernatural being; a devil.

1 a : an evil spirit b : a source or agent of evil, harm, distress, or
ruin
2 usually daemon : an attendant power or spirit : GENIUS
3 usually daemon : a supernatural being of Greek mythology intermediate
between gods and men
4 : one that has exceptional enthusiasm, drive, or effectiveness <a demon
for work>

The mailer daemon is meaning 2 - an attendant power or spirit, a thing which waits for work to do, then does it.

E-mail can most certainly glorify God. When you can reach across the world instantly and talk to people in another country who you've never met and share your experience with them?

People who think E-mail is evil need to seriously ask themselves what they personally are doing with it that is making it that way.

Guns aren't evil, they're just guns. It takes a person wielding it with malice to make it Evil.

I think that if you use e-mail in a way that is helpful - like getting devotionals or heaps of other reasons - that it's fine. it's only if you use e-mails and the internet for smutty stuff or to send viruses or something that it's wrong. I use it for heaps of stuff like in Christian groups, keeping in touch with overseas friends, getting devotionals.

I,ve never really taken thought on rather it was right or wrong to use e-mail, plus most of the people in my address book are christians, and we mostly send christian stuff, or a prayer request. I very seldom get e-mail thats not christian, and even then it was not bad. I think personally at least from were i,am from that most of the e-mail around hear is christian related, even from nonbelievers. I havn,t been convicted of using e-mail, so unless the Holy Spirit convicts me, I guess it will be okay. ;)

Yup. pretty much any program that runs as a background process (basically one that you can't see) on a computer is known as a daemon.
SMTP servers (outgoing mail servers)
http servers (the thing that serves you browser with this webpage)
etc etc

Scary :-S

To be honest at first when i read this thread, it made me laugh... but then i realised that the girl you talk about is either just very strange, way too impressionable, or mentally ill. Either way, it's not a good thing, so i suggest you start praying for her, as thinking liek she does, is only gonna mess up her life..

I mean, come on. Who invented the wheel?
Must have been a long time ago... i wonder if they even knew about God when they invented it.. maybe it's first use was to carry heavy pieces of stone to a place where they built a stone idol... we just don't know!

Nevertheless, we still use wheels today, and it's classed as one of the biggest inventions, ever. If you were to say that the wheel is evil - Goodbye nice car (or bad car if you haveno job like me :(), Goodbye house (where would all the materials come from if you didn't have a truck to carry them from miles away?), etc etc.. You get my point.

I think she'e being rather silly if you ask me.
