How does this fit in with the commandment we are to care for others as we would have them care for us in times of need. We all start off on equal footing and all have the same ability to murder within us. Did God execute Cain?
The lesson could well be, that the flood was required, because Cain lived.

If your one example against the death penalty, is that God let Cain live, why don't you use the example whereby God destroyed all of mankind, except for one family?

Or, in other words, letting murderers live condemns mankind.

What innocents have been executed?

Innocents are better protected by the death penalty/execution, in three ways, better than with life without parole.

The Death Penalty: Saving More Innocent Lives
DEATH PENALTY: SAVING MORE INNOCENT LIVES
I dont pay attention to random bloggers. As for wrongful executions, here is an entire list.

George Stinney, a 14-year old African-American boy, was electrocuted in South Carolina in 1944 for the murder of Betty June Binnicker, age 11, as well as Mary Emma Thames, age 8. The arrest occurred on March 23, 1944 in Alcolu, inside of Clarendon County, South Carolina. Supposedly, the two girls rode their bikes past Stinney's house where they asked him and his sister about a certain type of flower; after this encounter, the girls went missing and were found dead in a ditch the following morning. After an hour of interrogation by the officers, a deputy stated that Stinney confessed to the murder. He was the youngest person executed in the United States. More than 70 years later, a judge threw out the conviction, calling it a "great injustice.

When Jesus was asked directly, he answered directly.
I'll take that answer over a pro-death blogger.
I am a former anti-death penalty person who fact checked the debate for two years, prior to switched positions.

I suspect you are speaking of the woman caught in adultery, from John.

You have misinterpreted it, as I detailed. Here, again:

If He promoted any type of death penalty, He would have allowed the adulteress to get stoned to death.
Blessings.
Agree.
If He promoted any type of death penalty, He wouldn't have taught against it either.

You'd think those who claim to be pro-life would not only consider abortion through the lens of life being sacred , but also consider capital punishment and euthanasia, plus this would also overlap into issues of poverty, health care, war, guns, immigration, and protection of minorities.
Life is sacred, all of it.
It is because life is sacred that God, in Genesis 9:5-6, made the death penalty for murder mandatory.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
Early textual critics familiar with the use and meaning of these marks in classical Greek works like Homer, interpreted the signs to mean that the section (John 7:53–8:11) was an interpolation and not an original part of the Gospel.

During the 16th century, Western European scholars – both Catholic and Protestant – sought to recover the most correct Greek text of the New Testament, rather than relying on the Vulgate Latin translation. At this time, it was noticed that a number of early manuscripts containing the Gospel of John lacked John 7:53–8:11 inclusive; and also that some manuscripts containing the verses marked them with critical signs, usually a lemniscus or asterisk. It was also noted that, in the lectionary of the Greek church, the Gospel-reading for Pentecost runs from John 7:37 to 8:12, but skips over the twelve verses of this pericope.

Life is ALWAYS the right choice. Death is NEVER the right choice. Perhaps we should neuter them like we do a cat. That seems to take the fight out of the cats and they are more peaceful after that. There is an area in the brain in these people that lights up like Christmas tree. Maybe put chemical hand cuffs on them.

I always wonder about David in the Bible and how many people he killed and was still God's favorite. Somehow it does not seem possible that he was a man of blood and still loved God and God's law as much as he did. The Bible says a man after God's own heart.
There are, at least, four instances of death being the right choice.

In self defense, in defense of others, in a just war, all against unjust aggressors, and with executions of murderers.

As this is a Christian site, as obvious, the Passion of the Christ was the right choice, if you believe in His Father.

Laws, law enforcement and sanctions are society's self defense.

If the innocent are executed, is that any worse than if the innocent are imprisoned for a decade or longer? By that logic, we might as well not have any criminal justice system at all if there is even a remote danger of convicting the innocent.
That is the logical extension.

For example, about 5000 die every year in US custody and we execute only 32/yr on average (1973-2023).

As the death penalty has much greater due process protections than any other sanction, many more innocents and a much higher percentage of innocents will die in prison than we will have innocents executed, by a huge margin.

The judge said that Stinney could very well be guilty but that was not what she was to decide, It was due process, as per the ruling.

As detailed, under the circumstances, her stoning would have been illegal. As the text explains, they were trying to entrap Jesus

Do you believe the government has the legitimate moral authority to kill people who refuse to comply with it's laws?
