Go on over to Darfur and see what a real plight is.

I don´t need to go to Dar-four, where ever that is...just come down to Alberta and see how much we´re paying for gas. Ever seen a Soccer Mom cry at the pump ? I have. It´ll break your heart...thanks to Ottawa´s NEP no doubt.

You should be ashamed of yourself...Dar-four my behind !

I have family that lives in Alberta and they have not complained nor cried at the gas pump. One complaint they did have is this--they have to go get thier daughter and bring her home every day for lunch because they cannot afford to pay the fee that the school says they would have to pay if the girl stayed and ate lunch at the school. I am not talking about buying a school lunch but paying the school just to sit there and eat her own lunch at the school. They also don't like travelling so far to get to thier doctor offices because the one closer to them takes only a certain language group which ironically is not french either.

You can imagine that having family living in Alberta I certainly do NOT want them to leave Canada.

A question----I lived in the north for many many years and it is common practice for people from the north to have to travel to Alberta for medical treatment: chemotherapy, major operations, dialysis, emergency situations that cannot be dealt with in Yellowknife or Iqaluit etc etc.
Now, if Alberta is talking about leaving what will happen to these people, will they take thier patients and travel to BC or Ontario for medical help. Do you think that the government will really consider taking Alberta and making it seperate, I personally don't think it will happen.

I really don't think this will ever happen it's just a bunch of hot air from cranky politicians that will not be in power ten years down the line anyways.

I am an Albertan, in Red Deer, the belly of the beast:D

This is a non-issue, even with politicians. The only people talking about this are a few farmers and some nuts in Calgary! (Harper is on that list)

 -- poverty is rather a useless term...it changes every year. I'm sure the rest of the world is absolutely terrified that the great economic giant Saskatchewan will overtake the rest of the world....I'm sure they are just terrified.

If in the East are bureaucrats, what are the westerners -- well actually more or less just concerned about what you call yourself because I don't believe many of the rest of the west would prefer to be labelled under your rebellion. Just remember the fate of the last rebellion out of the west...left hanging in the wind...;)

Sorry, but how much is Ottawa taking from the West and how much is being given back?

And concerned about ourselves? Why on earth would I be concerned that I pay 56 cents on every dollar I make in taxes? Let me say that again, I pay over half of what I make to taxes. I guess someone idealistic who has no responsibility may not understand that, but it makes me sick. And what do I get? Well, it took my father-in-law six hours to see a doctor in the hospital...and I guess I paid for an inquiry to find out that the liberals did steal money, and I paid for a registry for some guns...and for some guy's gum who makes over $250,000 per year. Paid for some government trips all around the world, not only her, but her whole family...and her whole office.

I realize some of it's provincial tax, but honestly since Alberta and BC don't get any equalization payments, it seems I'm paying a little too much.

Whoa....perhaps some facts injected into the argument will help!:)

First of all, the only 2 provinces paying more than they recive are Alberta and Ontario.

Here is a link detailing all the payments and how the program works!

You are right, pardon me. Now if you could post how much each province pays in taxes. I should have said our outflowing is greater than our inflowing.

You will have to search for that....I am going to bed!

Remember, Alberta was a have-not province until 1961.

I'm in God's Country ...er, the Peace Country... and I swear, the rest of Canada is just freakin jealous, that's all. And, no. If we go, Sask. can sit and stew in the bed they made all by themselves. What have they done to deserve the blessing of joining Alberta??
