JMandrell said:I personally don't think that it is a sin to shoot pool, go to a bar, or drink a beer. But, what I do think that it affects your testimony and your influence. A mother is not going to be as willing to allow her child to visit with a youth minister who is constantly seen going into a bar. What people see you do really influences how they perceive you. I hope I made sense.

And New Wineskin, thanks to you, I now have that song in my head.
~may watch the Music Man later tonite~
Jeromethedisciple said:Kinda made sence, but I am not a youth minister. Really I have a heart for the people who are trapped in the cycle of drunkenness. I was there. I got to thinking about Romans where it says to not do anything that would cause a weaker brother to fall. Maybe it is that I can go play pool and drink diet Coke and lay off the beer. I think I can demonstrait to others that you can have a good time and love Jesus without the alochol.

If a mother is not going to be as willing becuase of someone *not* doing something that is a sin , her negative influence and negative testimony have already affected her child . Yes , what people do ( as in a mother of this type ) does influence how people perceive them .
Jeromethedisciple said:I do not think it hurts the actual testimony. I think it comes down to the alocoholic at the other table who sees me enjoying my beer and thinks "well if he is a christian and he can drink then it is alright for me". Ya know? I very well may be in control of myself but the alocoholic down the bar is not going to see that.
Romans 14:19-21
19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.
I am sure the same goes for drinks as well.
Anyhow, god bless and keep on building one another up in Christ!!!,
Jerry
