I personally don't think that it is a sin to shoot pool, go to a bar, or drink a beer. But, what I do think that it affects your testimony and your influence. A mother is not going to be as willing to allow her child to visit with a youth minister who is constantly seen going into a bar. What people see you do really influences how they perceive you. I hope I made sense.

Kinda made sence, but I am not a youth minister. Really I have a heart for the people who are trapped in the cycle of drunkenness. I was there. I got to thinking about Romans where it says to not do anything that would cause a weaker brother to fall. Maybe it is that I can go play pool and drink diet Coke and lay off the beer. I think I can demonstrait to others that you can have a good time and love Jesus without the alochol.

Although I may well have the RIGHT to enjoy an adult drink, I may need to surrender my right so as to better edify others:scratch: . Am I making sence?

Where I live, we have family oriented restaurants called "bar and grill." There are quite a few of them, and they're large establishments. The grill area of the place is really a family oriented restaurant, and the bar side has pool tables, and a nice bar. They're all nice, classy, well lit places. I see nothing wrong with going to a place like this, and playing pool or darts, having a beer or two. I think it's important to know your limit so you're not intoxicated though. One beer may be enough for many women, and two to three beers may be more than enough for most men. It all depends on the individual metabolic rate.

The one thing I try to remember in everything I do, is something that was told to me as a child. For some people, you are the only Jesus they will ever see. What that means is that in knowing you are a Christian, the Jesus that shines through you, may be the only example of Christian love that they see. So keeping that in mind helps us to know which choices to make. It works for me.

If they are not a sin , how can it affect your testimony ?

If a mother is not going to be as willing becuase of someone *not* doing something that is a sin , her negative influence and negative testimony have already affected her child . Yes , what people do ( as in a mother of this type ) does influence how people perceive them .

I do not think it hurts the actual testimony. I think it comes down to the alocoholic at the other table who sees me enjoying my beer and thinks "well if he is a christian and he can drink then it is alright for me". Ya know? I very well may be in control of myself but the alocoholic down the bar is not going to see that.

Romans 14:19-21
19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

I am sure the same goes for drinks as well.

Anyhow, god bless and keep on building one another up in Christ!!!,

Jerry

The alcoholic knows the difference between enjoying a drink and continuing an addiction to alcohol . They may be in a state of denial but they do understand it . Also , an alcoholic will use any reason to drink . I wouldn't go to a restaurant and then stop eating if I saw someone who is obese nearby . It is a part of the function of the place .

That doesn't really apply . An alcholic in a place where drinks are served and consumed has already chosen to be in the place . This isn't the case where someone who doesn't drink and thinks that they shouldn't drink could be easily led into drinking because they will follow whatever lead someone else gives . In this situation , my additional drinking wouldn't be the problem .

Thanks , for your explanation and input . :)
