I don't know. I believe that in most people, the desire to do good, to help others, is there. When faced with saving yourself or saving another person though, then it gets a little trickier. We have discussed this before, but for me, I wouldn't save another person if it meant that I would die. Only because my child needs me. If I could help in any other way, besides sacrificing my life though, I would. The only beings I would lay down my life for, are my parents, my child, my nieces and nephews, and my Savior. He died for me, and if I had to die because I believe in Him, then I would. That doesn't mean it would be easy.

As for helping others though, I love to help people. It's part of why I'm in the career that I'm in. Perhaps it's also because I'm a woman. Many women have that nurturing side to themselves, though I really do think that some men like to "rescue" those that are in distress. So maybe we all help for different reasons?

Thank you, I agree with what you wrote , but if it was for all the right reasons I would ( I think ) lay my life down for another....hope i never need to test that.

Chivalry is dead and women killed it. At least, High School girls killed it. Nice guy is always left behind it seems...

Edit/Additional: Not to say that's the way I'd like it to be. I think it's a damn shame.

Sadly, there is truth to this.

So long as Christian men live, Chivlary should not be dead. Chivlary is not merely holding the door open for the ladies, it is that and much much else. It is being good when you are left out; protecting ladies of any kind saved or unsaved.

Not just Christian men. Chivalry appeals to some non-Christian men as well.

Chivalry is a reaction to nobility. I dispise nobility and am no fan of Chivalry. I hold the door open for anyone who is near enough to me to benefit from my action, male or female. I protect anyone who can use my protection, and I let anyone stupid enough to start a fight enjoy the beating they recieve. Chivalry is dead and me and true humanity are dancing on it's grave.

And bushido can take a flying leap as well.

Naa, not having that....you just dont have it in you...have you never given up you seat on a bus before...if yes then it is alive and in you.

90% of people were peasants living in squalor. i can tell you that chivalry was born and breeds in them conditions.

Its not all about knights and white horses you know, go for a walk or a warm bath and think about it.

Chivalry would be ok if I could go off and do bold deeds too. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Anyway, romanticizing that period of history is silly, since 90% of people were peasants living in squalor.

I don't think chivary is dead. I do think the feminist movement brought it to it's knees, for awhile, perhaps. In spite of all that hype about wanting to be equal (why would they want to lower themselves like that?) I still find that women like to be treated with respect.

The dragons we have to slay for our mates are not the same ones, but they're still dragons. Mortgages, stress, depression etc are today's dragons. Sometimes the best weapon in the battle is the ability to make her laugh.

While anyone can be a gentleman (i.e. Christian and unChristian) not everyone can be, in my opionin Chivalrous. The top rule of Chivalry is to destory the enemies of the Church. Although most views of "modern" Chivalry is nothing than having good manners; Chivalry is more of a warrior trait.
