Rev isn't for amateurs. Anyone who reads and tries to pin the meanings on exterior/physical features such as a real country, city or a person/person's is automatically off base.
Why? Because they never factor in the devil and his messengers. They just look on the outside, never on the inside. That's actually a leading of the devil and his own.
So, even though I'll bold this as to "Babylon" from a couple of simple scriptures, people who remain under the blindness of the devil still won't get the picture. I still believe such are saved, but whatever.
Revelation 18:2
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying,
Babylon the great
is fallen,
is fallen, and
is become
the habitation of devils, and
the hold of every
foul spirit, and
a cage of every
unclean and hateful bird.
Synopsis: Babylon the great is DEVILS, the hold of FOUL SPIRIT, a cage of HATE.
Now, knowing this fact, where did Jesus show us where devils are?
If you answered, IN PEOPLE you heard right. The unseen resides in the seen. Therefore it's pointless to point at the seen and miss the underlying cause altogether.
Just to bolster this fact of scripture, let's see where "the harlot sits":
Revelation 17:15
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest,
where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Brilliant deduction. AND why is this "thing," this evil being called a woman and a harlot? Because PEOPLE are meant to be THE BRIDE OF CHRIST.
Get it?
Let's try it again from another scripture:
Revelation 16:13-14
And I saw
three unclean
spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of
the dragon, and out of the mouth of
the beast, and out of the mouth of
the false prophet.
For
they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Synopsis: The DRAGON, the BEAST and the FALSE PROPHET are all the SPIRITS OF DEVILS. i.e. NOT people. Even though these reside in people they are NOT people.
And let's finish off with the antiChrist and what John tells us the antiChrist is:
1 John 4:3
And every
spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is
that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and
even now already is it in the world.
Anyone looking for a singular person as thee antiChrist is wasting their time. The antiChrist is part of the spirits of devils. We have an enemy. It's not our fellow man. It's the DEVIL, plain and simple.
John gave us all excellent advice, rather than worry about some guy, antiChrist:
2 John 1:8
Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
