One of my sisters on her sailing trip across the Great Lakes. This time she left from Chicago up to Mackinac Island. That's the Mackinac Bridge in the background, which I believe is the longest suspension bridge in the world. I could be wrong. She's the one in purple.

Why is she not wearing a life jacket.

She knows how to swim and they don't go out far from shore? There's also really no reason to wear a life jacket if you are just going to be in the boat.

Saucy, your little Nephew and Niece make me smile so so much. What sweethearts! I like that you find such joy in your family. :)

Dreamin, that beach looks beautiful. The sand looks so nice and clean. Plus, your sandcastle skills are impressive! Thanks for sharing.

I thought that was only for kids who can't swim yet.

Haha. I never wear one. I've been on very choppy water in a small boat on Lake Erie and I still don't like them, lol. It is just not cool to put one on. Especially if you are a strong swimmer:)

Or if your doing something like water skiing where you could get seriously injured without warning and couldn't tread water until you get picked up.

Seriously, who actually wears one of those??? :)

I guess it's a difference between people who have been around water a lot versus people who haven't. I grew up on the great plains was terrified the first time I was on a boat and couldn't see land.

She has one she wears actually thats really tiny, but will suddenly inflate once it touches water

I did cave recently and put one on for a minute because I was really cold in the boat and only had a thin shirt on. I felt like a lesser person though, lol.

The first time I went sailing with my sister there was a huge storm. Lol I was the only one who was scared. Her kids didn't even bother.

Did that actually work?

I'm pretty sure the last time I wore one was when I was on a cruise and we had to wear one for the safety drill. If we didn't, than it was when I went tubing on my uncle's boat, but that's only cause I could hit something when I fell and knock myself out and I only wore it when I was actually on the tube.

Actually you would be surprised, it blocked out quite a bit of the wind coming off the lake. I don't usually wear life jackets, but I am kind of kidding in these posts. I wouldn't refuse to wear one if I thought my life could be in danger in any way. I used to be a risk taker with swimming in my teens but I have become wiser in my old age, lol.

Its all fun and games until they hit an underwater rock that nobody knows about or a floating log and they are all in the water not knowing what to do because they do not know what just happened. Then somebody gets a cramp and its no longer just fun and games.

I am sending this picture to the boat safety people and having them analyze it for future projections on boat safety day.

The caption will read..."something could have happened but it did not so this picture is not that important but it was all we had to fill up some time during boat safety".

I know I always try and wear one, but I follow the rules. ;)

PS. In my lifejacket I am actually cooler.
