It's the difference between religion and relationship. I fear God because He is holy and He allows sin to curse us in various ways. That is true. But my moral performance does not save me. I am allowed to be free from impurity. Before Christ, all there is is bondage to sin there is no choice to be free from it, you are stuck in that lifestyle. After Christ the liberty bell rings and one can step out of addiction into freedom. We now have that choice should we choose to accept it. Jesus not only broke the chains of death and hell, but actually broke the chains of sin itself.
