  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not sure that the missionary only philosophy even exists anymore. As far as the procreation only philosophy, even the Catholic church has backed off to an extent, recognizing that sex has a unitive component that is just as important. The "quiverful" people might be the only ones who view sex as solely procreative, but I'm not even sure that is true of them. Frankly, there is no biblical support for a procreative only position, and I am not sure anyone takes such a position now.

I wouldn't even label the proponents of the missionary/procreation only stance as being "fundimentalist". I am a fundimentalist, everyone in my wife's family is fundimentalist, and most of my friends are fundimentalist, and none of these people support such an idea. So it is not inherently a fundimentalist philosophy. In fact, I consider it to be much more of a fanatical philosophy. At any rate, those who believe such things as doctrine, if they exist at all, are rare and their arguments are easily defeated.

You may be interested in this thread on contraception from some time back. We discussed the "procreation only" error in some detail (see posts 12, 14, 17, 38, and 61 in particular)

maybe the people are scared of it because they have been taught that it is all bad.

christianity does not teach license for sexual promiscuity, but it neither takes the joy out of it. i think that teachings of men and church tradition have done that. but that can be just as wrong as preaching license, because it is a powerful drive and not to everybody is it given to abstain, especially not in times like ours with
sexual stimuli everywhere.
