  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are a few of us on this board. I've been sewing for about forty years (give or take). I just finished an evening gown costume for the first act of the Nutcracker ballet. I have a couple other projects on the go -- pretty much I always do. My church needs a new altar frontal for Christmas Day, so I guess that's the next urgent project.

I noticed that your favourite hymn is "Here I am to worship". That's one of my favourites, too.

I never realized how difficult sewing isn't. I have only been sewing for about 3 months. My first clothing project was a swag skirt for my 4 year old sister. It is cute. I got complements on my work. I am very proud of myself, and thank the Lord for His work in it too.

I taught myself to sew, my mother hates to! I love the fact that I can wear things that I created from scratch, I don't use patterns. I suppose because I hand sew that things are more fragile, but I generally make tops and bags etc for one off occasions or as a project, I don't mind too much if they need repairing.

I don't really think it all through. Bags and thigns are easy, even round ones, because it's only a few pieces. The only others things I make are tops, which aren't too hard, I know in my head a basic shape and since my body hasn't changed much I just tack it and try it on and then alter it. I put them on inside out, pin where I want it to be and then take it off, tack a line, try it on again. I'm quite scientific with everything else i my life but here it's all trial and error, just in case i completly mess up none of the material is very expensive and I always start with too much material so I can unpick and rearrange it. I also do a lot of alterations. For example I was going through my dad's wardrobe and found a great shirt, it's got an amazing pattern, it's too small for him so I took it in for me.

I wish I could sew better. My machine is going weird, something w/ the bobbin and bobbin casing. But, I love to try. I've made doll clothes, cloth dipes, I just started on a jumper for my daughter, and a quilt, and a duvet cover for me. But I am not so good, just passable.

I'm sure it's gonna come out beautiful, and he is going to love it...so have fun with it.;)
peace out, and God Bless.
