Seventh Day Adventists day out invite

Hi, I'm not looking for a church but I have been invited to go on a day trip to the seaside with them in a coach next week the Seventh Day Adventists. I already go to church but they are not offering this trip this summer. I do have disabilities so going in a coach is helpful for me and I like to go the sea in summer.

I read up yesterday about them, it seems ok to go with them I had a bit of an issue with William Miller but it doesn't seem he was a prophet and believing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit myself have nothing to say about Ellen White.
The other differences doesn't seem like a deal breaker to me even though I don't share them. I'm not going there to worship with them. They profess to believe in the central elements of Christianity.
Is there anything I should be aware of. I am not really going to make friends but will talk to people if spoken to.
I notice there isn't a section for them and it got me wondering a bit as well. I am a Christian and my faith is central to my life, i'm just checking if it is ok to go.

What is your denomination? If you feel uncomfortable with the 7th Day Adventists, you do not have to go, but if you are okay with the differences, you can go on the trip.

Seventh-day Adventist here.

The Seventh-day Adventist church formed in 1863. William Miller passed in 1849. The Seventh-day Adventist church did come out of the Millerite movement, but William himself was going his own way and not involved in its forming. He had long since passed by the time our church formed.

The main differences between Seventh-day Adventists and other churches:

• We observe the seventh-day Sabbath instead of Sunday as our day of worship.
• We have traditional reverent church services.
• We teach from the Bible. Ellen White is considered to be an inspired prophet, but there is no requirement to believe anything she says, and many Adventists never read her written work. The Bible is our standard of truth.
• We teach Bible prophecy.
• We promote vegetarianism for health. This does not mean you are required to be vegetarian. I grew up eating meat and vegetarian food alike.
• There are some doctrinal differences in Adventism, but you'll find just as many differences between other Protestant denominations.

In my experience, as a life-long member, Seventh-day Adventists are God fearing, loving Christians. If you're worried about being pressured into anything, don't be. We're not like that. Go and have fun.

I think if you are a smoker or want to party with alcohol, that may cause some friction. Might be good to find out expectations. Also, on Saturday, they probably will want to keep the day special, so if you wanted to watch TV in a common room, that might be an issue with some.

I am not SDA But have known a few members well, they are good people and follow closely the bible, Go in peace!

I am a Seventh-day Adventist so of course I would agree that going with them on that ride is a good thing.

BTW - William Miller was a Baptist Evangelist. He was not a Seventh-day Adventist and had some beliefs that do not align with Adventists. But he affirmed the Protestant "Historicist model" that held to the day-for-year interpretation of apocalyptic prophecy and had the same start date for the 2300 day - years of Dan 8 that Adventists still hold to.

Adventists hold that Ellen White had one of the gifts listed in 1 Cor 12 (Prophecy) but we insist on sola scriptura testing and basis of all doctrine, tradition and practice. We affirm what we publish as the "28 Fundamental Beliefs" and hold that they stand or fall - "sola scriptura"

We have visitors that smoke and drink and have no friction with them - but we do teach that God says in the Bible that He wants all people to be in good health and to have good health practices.

I like that web page. It mentions a book published by the Seventh-day Adventist church called "Questions on Doctrine" - I find that document to be accurate in its explanations of doctrinal statements that we often refer to .
