The hiss of an arrow startled Freezia, and she managed only to turn before it smote her in the shoulder, intended for Aridol, who instantly ordered for arms to be drawn.
Arrows were set to string, and swords were drawn as they rushed up to the eaves of the forest, only to find the elf in his element and long since vanished, cursing his luck and the silver-haired girl.
Freezia clamped her jaw and drew the shaft from her shoulder as one of Aridol the Dragon host's people approached and tended to the wound.
She inspected the arrow, then threw it away from her in disgust. Aridol approached her and picked it up. He held it in front of her. "You know something," he said, and she looked up at him.
"A dark elf." She muttered, and he glanced at the arrow.
"An elf?" He echoed, and she touched the oak shaft.
"Well made, inscribed with an elven letter...from a long bow...the head is overlaid with silver and feathered in the manner of the elves. It is poisoned. That clearly signifies a dark elf."
Aridol nodded and snapped it, destroying any magic in it that remained. He looked thoughtfully at her hair. "A windsong? I thought they were all dead."
"So do many." She whistled for Zanxi, and he fluttered down next to her. Freezia mounted, careful not to jar her shoulder. "I'm going to hunt some dwarf!" She said above the steady roar of Zanxi's wings, and Aridol's men watched her fade into the distance.

An hour later, Freezia saw the red glow on the horizon, and Zanxi sensed her command and dropped swiftly through the trees below, his wings pinned to his side as they descended as fast as any human ever has through the atmosphere.
Her sharp eyes spotted the two running from the flames, and Zanxi dodged around trees until she reached them, flying level with the lower treebranches.
"Greetings!" She shouted, and Janwah stopped her flight and looked warily at her.
"Hello...." she said, and her eyes flickered from the steady green eyes to the silver hair and then back. She focused on Freezia's eyes, and said, "I dd not expect to find a silver-haired girl at my assistance."
The boy stood beside his mother, gazing in awe at Zanxi. "You ride that thing?" he asked, slightly wary.
"What else?" She asked, and returned her attention to Janwah. "You need shelter, I assume, fromt that fireball back there."
Janwah's eyes dropped. "We do. Can you help us?"
Freezia smiled. "Of course, wait a moment, and I'll call your ride." She smiled and whistled, and Pegasus frog-hopped out of the forest, spreading his wings. "Here you are." She said, grinning, as Daniel eagerly petted the gelding's nose.
Janwah and Daniel mounted, the former somewhat cautiously. They found themselves a hundred feet up in a wink and both became lightheaded.
Janwah looked to her right, and saw Zanxi beside them, his strong wings flapping as Freezia guided them to the closest town, Calacern.
