My pastor recently said something like this to the congregation:
"You are not to go to other pastors if I'm your pastor. You can't serve two master."
I'm familiar with the verse in the NT Matthew 6:21
No man can serve TWO MASTERS: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
My question is, are our pastors our masters? After all, they are the heads of our congragations, right? While this passage refers to serving God and mammom, it reads as if its comparing two things, like saying Just like you can't serve two earthly masters, you can't serve two spiritual masters.
