My disclaimer is that I wouldn't preach the pink part as it is. I would completely change the way it is presented, first by doing good research, presenting a balanced view and making sure that any the other group is not treated as enemies but fellow brothers and sisters who are journeying with us in trying to discover God's truth. None of us has it all "right" but it can be useful to learn from the mistakes of other Christians, not to condemn them but to keep us in check.Cright said:I understand you do believe in the preaching of the pink paragraph! I understand it is to educate ourselves in the ways of the world (and false teachings) so as not to follow them. The question I'm really trying to get at (and I hope you can help here) is...
What biblically supports this way of teaching?
Someone mentioned that Jesus spoke against the pharisees.. can you point me in the direction I should look in my bible for this and other situations.. or any verses that support that this way of teaching is biblical?
As for scripture, the early church didn't have the sermon, sunday school, small group structure for teaching that is so prevalent in churches today. It is hard to say what Paul or Jesus would say is appropriate for sermons.
I'm sure AV1611 and GEL will point out all the NT passages warning us to watch out for false teachers and rebuking a brother in love. And that is true. But there is also the issue of slander. If we are to point out the errors of others, may we never do it in a slanderous way but in a way that says I may have issues with something they teach, but I still love them anyway.
We may be able to accomplish that without naming names or pointing fingers like the way you did in the orange section of your post. And if we can do that, then that would probably be preferred. But I would rather we get it out in the open and deal honestly and fairly with a subject than have people connect the dots in the wrong way by being too vague.
