• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From this morning's devotional.

I walked a mile with Pleasure,

She chatted all the way,

But left me none the wiser

For all she had to say.

I walked a mile with Sorrow,

and ne'er a word said she,

But, oh, the things I learned from her

When Sorrow walked with me!

Thank you Lord when I walk my Emmaus Road, troubled and disquited because someone precious has been taken away, Your Presence will flood my prosaic path with Your peerless glory and turn my Good Fridays into Easter Sundays.

Taken from Portraits of Perseverence by Henry Gariepy.

I just came out of my quiet time thanking God for all the things he has given me in my life, especially the suffering... And I saw your post and I thought, wow thats amazing, what a God-incidence! I never thought Id hear myself say it, but I praise God that he has made me suffer this way, despite the awful things I have to go through.

I used to ask him why when I nearly wasnt born in the first place did he make me live, why was it better to have lived than just to have gone to heaven an unborn child free from pain and unaware of darkness..

but now I realise what he has done for me.. how can you appreciate the cross unless you have suffered yourself, how can you understand the debt of love and grace you owe unless you had first sinned and recieved salvation, how could you understand how much it cost the Father to forgive us until you have struggled to forgive someone who caused you pain, how can you help others come to know him if you have never understood bondage and that you have been set free, how can you comfort others in their pain and devastation, and point them to their saviour if you have never walked through the valley of the shadow of death yourself?

For all my suffering, for all my circumstances I thank God and praise Him.

I agree that sorrow and trouble are great teachers, but pleasure is also a great teacher. God doesn't require us to be in constant pain or misery. He created us to feel and enjoy pleasure for good reasons. If we had to live our whole lives in sorrow, we would not love to live, we'd all be looking for ways to end life.

Yet God says life is a good thing. So he sends us pleasure and joy, so we will want to live and complete our courtship with him and to show us the beauty of his character, the extent of his love for us, and what we have to look forward to in eternity.!
